Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 204 - Samir Ounzain - Co-founder & CEO Haya Therapeutics
Q: If you could have dinner with any scientist or innovator, who would it be and why?
Craig Venter, for his pioneering role in genomics and his ability to challenge assumptions about biology, which aligns with HAYA's mission to move biology front and center as an information science.
Episode 204 - Samir Ounzain - Co-founder & CEO Haya Therapeutics
Q: What are you most excited about in the next 12–24 months?
Translating the biology into the clinic, achieving safety/tolerability signals for the first asset, and potentially demonstrating RNA-guided cellular reprogramming in cardiac fibrosis, which could validate the platform and unlock broader applications.
Episode 204 - Samir Ounzain - Co-founder & CEO Haya Therapeutics
Q: What were the biggest challenges in the early days of HAYA?
Securing capital for a radical, first-in-biology RNA medicine focused on heart failure; building the Swiss-American ecosystem and attracting talent to an early-stage company were major hurdles.
Episode 204 - Samir Ounzain - Co-founder & CEO Haya Therapeutics
Q: How is your approach to AI different from other biotech companies in the space?
They use AI to uncover completely new biology in the regulatory genome and to identify first-in-biology targets, rather than applying AI to known targets or existing protein pathways, with the goal of translating these discoveries into oligonucleotide therapies.
Episode 204 - Samir Ounzain - Co-founder & CEO Haya Therapeutics
Q: What originally inspired you to found HAYA, and what was the big vision from day one?
The founder describes a lifelong focus on how the genome interacts with the environment and explains that unlocking the non-coding regions—the dark matter of the genome—could provide a tractable, disease-modifying approach to common chronic diseases, starting with heart failure. The vision was to translate this biology into first-in-biology targets and then into clinically translatable RNA therapies.
