  • Perfect for the new Batman comic reader

I grew up obsessed with the animated series, movies, and Arkham video games. I needed something to do during the ✨pandemy✨and picked up year one after I stumbled upon this podcast. This pod is partially to blame for the absurd amount of money I have spent on floppys and trades after nearly 25 years of not having a comic collecting hobby. This pod is seriously that good. Since then, I have worked through the Batman mythos and listened to Ryan and the gang break down the stories that have inspired... more

  • Perfect reading guide for all things Batman

This podcast got me into actually reading comics after being a huge Batman animated series and movie fan. Have followed along and read every book covered after having barely read anything before. Highly recommend.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Batman: Dark Knight Triumphant (Episode 276)
Q: Which version of The Dark Knight Returns did you read?
Paul describes reading a blend of editions, noting he started with a Dark Knight Returns absolute edition and also engaged with the trade paperbacks for context.
New Batman in April (Episode 274)
Q: Would you ever come back to do a deeper dive on Batman RIP on the Comic Binge?
If invited and if I had time to reread the entire RIP arc, I'd be willing to discuss it, though the story is long and divisive, so I'd approach it with a plan to cover key junctures and themes.
New Batman in April (Episode 274)
Q: What issue last month felt most like a classic Batman experience to you?
The Batman/Wonder Woman one-shot and Absolute Batman 19 stood out, delivering strong character dynamics and a tight, focused ride that reminded me of early, grounded Bat-years.
Batman and the Classics (Episode 273)
Q: How did you structure the book, and why choose those particular Batman stories?
The book uses a hybrid chronological and thematic structure, starting with The Dark Knight Returns and ending with Nolan's films, organizing chapters around themes like tragedy, journey, and detective/strategist.
Batman and the Classics (Episode 273)
Q: Why include LEGO Batman Movie as part of a scholarly discussion?
He explains it as a way to show how parodies reveal foundational ideas about a character, such as Batman's loneliness and deductive mindset, and to demonstrate multiple entry points for different audiences, including families.
