  • The best podcast period.

I can listen to this podcast all day long. Mr. Cash is a master at getting the guests to give the interview a good flow and that is not easy. The guests are some of most important fly fishermen and tying people on the planet.

Thank you for a job well done.

  • Great show with in depth info

Marvin does a great job bringing interesting guides, tiers and anglers on to share their knowledge. There’s not a lot of fluff or time wasting here - just great, topical, unique information that is hard to find if you’re not in the regions covered regularly. Highly recommended.

S8, Ep 34: Frog Patterns and Fishing Strategies: Brian Shumaker's Late Spring Smallmouth Report
Q: What's your favorite frog pattern for the bite, and how do you fish it?
I favor the Umpqua Swimmin Frogs and I'll reinforce them with resin on the belly to make sure they sit belly-down and float well; I also use green options like Blockhead Poppers and sometimes the Green Booglebug for variety, while watching the fly swim and the eat happen in a very visual way.
S8, Ep 31: Chasing Smallmouth: Brian Shumaker's Adaptations for Unpredictable Spring Weather
Q: When you come out on a day like that, how do you crack the code where you know it's going to be funky and decide on a plan?
The approach is to start with what worked the day before, assess quickly whether it's still in their mood, and then adjust by slowing retrieves, getting deeper, or switching to different patterns until something sticks.
S8, Ep 31: Chasing Smallmouth: Brian Shumaker's Adaptations for Unpredictable Spring Weather
Q: But before I let you hop, you want to let folks know generally your availability, how to get on the calendar and reach out and all that good stuff?
Brian confirms limited July dates and forthcoming openings in August and September, and directs listeners to call or text a specific number, plus his Susque River Guide website and social channels for contact.
S8, Ep 32: Spring Fishing Unlocked: Mac Brown's Tips for Targeting Elementary and Graduate School Fish
Q: What are your suggestions for determining whether you're fishing to elementary school fish or graduate school fish and how that dictates your approach?
The guest explains that anglers should read water cues, observe which patterns are drawing bites, and vary presentation (size, dropper placement) to target the feeding depth and mouth preferences of the different fish cohorts.
S8, Ep 28: Lessons from the River: Mac Brown's Insights on Adapting to Unusual Conditions
Q: What practical steps can a weekend angler take to stay effective when the river is running warm and low?
Shift to cooler water sources such as tailwaters, fish for species that tolerate warmer temps, and be prepared to adjust flies and presentation to match the current conditions.
