  • The best podcast period.

I can listen to this podcast all day long. Mr. Cash is a master at getting the guests to give the interview a good flow and that is not easy. The guests are some of most important fly fishermen and tying people on the planet.

Thank you for a job well done.

  • Great show with in depth info

Marvin does a great job bringing interesting guides, tiers and anglers on to share their knowledge. There’s not a lot of fluff or time wasting here - just great, topical, unique information that is hard to find if you’re not in the regions covered regularly. Highly recommended.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S8, Ep 41: Offbeat Seasons and Terrestrial Tactics: Mac Brown's Fishing Strategies
Q: How should anglers adapt when hatches are coming off at odd times this year?
Pay attention to eyes and cues from the environment; shift to terrestrials when biomass drops and use live reports to gauge conditions.
S8, Ep 39: High Water Strategies: Captain Brian Shumaker's Pennsylvania Smallmouth Insights
Q: Could you share generally what your calendar looks like on open dates and how to get in touch?
There are dates available in July and August, with more open slots in September and October; the best way to reach Brian is by text or at the Susque River Guides website to book trips.
S8, Ep 39: High Water Strategies: Captain Brian Shumaker's Pennsylvania Smallmouth Insights
Q: Are you kind of seeing what a reasonable late July, early August is going to look like in your part of the world?
If rains keep coming, conditions remain favorable with ongoing water, but without rains the river could become very lean, pushing anglers toward a finesse, long-cast approach and stealthy presentations; overall it hinges on rainfall patterns this summer.
S8, Ep 39: High Water Strategies: Captain Brian Shumaker's Pennsylvania Smallmouth Insights
Q: So what's the strategy when you get out and get in the boat for a day of fishing?
Start by pounding the banks when water is high, but also target mid-river structures as fish move with the growing current. Use a mix of topwater, streamers, and crayfish; adjust color and profile based on water clarity, and be ready to switch flies often as mood and conditions change.
S8, Ep 42: Exploring Terrestrials and Summer Patterns: George Costa's Fishing Forecast
Q: Any upcoming events or classes anglers should know about?
There are a smallmouth tying class at State College with Caleb Rebarchak and the All Fins In Tournament to benefit Clearwater Conservancy, along with a Boiling Springs Fly Fishing Festival.
