  • My favorite podcast

I love April and her guests so much!! This podcast and April’s YouTubes got me started in Skagit fishing and it’s now my favorite way to fish! The show helped challenge my views on many topics, and I really appreciate the tremendous amount of work she puts into getting fair coverage for both sides of debate.

  • Awesome Podcast

I found this podcast just two months ago and have already listened to almost the entire catalog of episodes. The interviews, guests and stories are phenomenal. The fishing stories are universally relatable, funny, and extremely entertaining. Listening to this podcast is like talking to your fishing buddies at a camp fire or at the bar over some drinks. I have added a lot of destinations and species to my bucket list and can’t wait to hear more stories in future episodes.

Anchored Podcast Ep. 288: Jesse Males and Koji Sumalde on The Future of Fly Fishing Films
Q: What can you tell us about what you are up to next and your broader vision?
We're pushing toward more original, boundary-pushing storytelling with long-form formats and collaborations that reflect who we are, while staying true to our audience and the craft.
Anchored Podcast Ep. 288: Jesse Males and Koji Sumalde on The Future of Fly Fishing Films
Q: What advice would you give to other videographers or creators who want to tell a story more effectively?
Know your subject well, plan for a narrative arc, and communicate openly to shape a genuine, flowing story; post-production and music choices are essential to tying everything together.
Anchored Podcast Ep. 288: Jesse Males and Koji Sumalde on The Future of Fly Fishing Films
Q: Let's talk a little about the standards in the fly fishing industry when it comes to camera work.
There is a growing gap between solo shooters and teams; audiences are entertained but the behind-the-scenes reality is that teams deliver higher quality work and stronger vibes, which is hard to achieve solo.
Anchored Podcast Ep. 287: The Lost Art of Hand-Tied Flies with Adrian Cortes
Q: What do you think you are most known for in the community?
Adrian suggests he's most known for tying flies by hand, his passion for surface steelhead, bamboo rods, and pushing the envelope in how steelhead can be presented, which inspires others to explore traditional and experimental approaches.
Anchored Podcast Ep. 287: The Lost Art of Hand-Tied Flies with Adrian Cortes
Q: If somebody wanted to start tying by hand today, what would be your advice and what is the big obstacle to look out for?
Start with essential materials, especially good thread and proper wax, and be prepared for a slow, patience-heavy learning curve. The biggest obstacle is disappointment and impatience; progress comes with time, focus on the process rather than the immediate result.
