  • Informative and easy listening

This podcast is informative for an extremely wide audience. The hosts are “dad-joke funny” (in the best possible way) and do a great job of researching and distilling topics in various industry topics. The hosts seem to do a great job of disarming interviewees as well, as they get some great perspective from senior aerospace executives. This show is simply fun and it is underpinned by phenomenal journalism. Well worth listening to if you’re at all interested in business/aviation/travel.

So I came across this podcast about a year ago from listening to another related podcast. This podcast is different because it focuses on the industry itself. I am not in the industry but have learned a lot from listening to these guys. Give them a listen!

Southwest’s Big Changes are Done, Now What?
Q: You consider check bag fees to be the same type of thing, or is that really just a money grab effectively?
The overwhelming majority of the items that we've done as part of this transformation fit into that category where you get the Venn diagram that overlaps where it's both leaning into the customer and also generating a financial result.
Southwest’s Big Changes are Done, Now What?
Q: Is there a possibility to make this loyalty program look a little bit more like your pure loyalty programs?
We do have a strong loyalty program. Loyalty programs are part and parcel of the airline business, and it really reflects a situation where your customers like you and therefore will transfer that like or that love to the bank card.
Southwest’s Big Changes are Done, Now What?
Q: How do you prepare the airline for that eventual transition to a new aircraft type?
As we get to that point and we see what that technology is and how it interacts with the aircraft that we have, we'll deal with it and we'll see where we are at that point.
Revenue Management 201
Q: What does Brett attribute to being the second big game changer after consolidation?
Brett attributes the loyalty game as the second big game changer, providing airlines with a significant revenue boost and impacting the competitive landscape.
Revenue Management 201

Doug sees basic economy as a strategic tool that helps airlines segment travelers better, despite some skeptics questioning its revolutionary impact.
