  • sibilance steals a star!

the content of this podcast is awesome. i wish, however, there was some kind of audio engineering to diffuse the persistent and overwhelming sibilance. the “s” sounds from the host are too much for my system - and i think they could be modified with the right audio engineering or equipment modification. it would be a worthwhile adjustment and would definitely command 5 full stars at that point!

Design Experiences People Love: Why Work Fails Without Them with Marcus Buckingham
Q: What are the five feelings and how can managers apply them day-to-day?
The five feelings are control, harmony, significance, warmth of others, and growth; managers can apply them through consistent, brief weekly one-on-one check-ins focused on how last week felt and what to focus on next week.
Design Experiences People Love: Why Work Fails Without Them with Marcus Buckingham
Q: Why does Buckingham argue workplaces fail more from design of experiences than from missing skills?
Because even highly skilled people can be drained by experiences that don't honor their humanity; the right design of love-infused experiences unlocks motivation and performance.
Passion is Overrated. Build Purpose Into Everyday Work with Tom Rath
Q: What is the role of managers in fostering purpose among teams and individuals?
Managers should facilitate conversations that surface meaningful work, help employees identify how their strengths can contribute to others, and build feedback loops to show how daily activities serve customers and the organization.
Passion is Overrated. Build Purpose Into Everyday Work with Tom Rath
Q: How should individuals approach changing their role or career when organizational support is limited or changing?
Take ownership of your career by asking the big why questions in regular one-on-ones, align your work with what the world needs, and look for opportunities to create rather than merely respond to tasks.
Passion is Overrated. Build Purpose Into Everyday Work with Tom Rath
Q: Your book asks people to consider: what's the point of the next hour or task? How can someone start applying that today?
Start by reflecting on yesterday's work and identify a moment where you made a positive difference for a customer or colleague, then structure your day to increase such purposeful moments, beginning with tasks that energize you and have clear value.
