  • Life changing resource!

When my three-year-old daughter was diagnosed I remember thinking life would never be okay. I quickly stumbled upon the Type One Together Instagram page and they’ve been like family ever since. Between the babysitter list, the master classes, the better together course and this podcast I feel like I’m more equipped to deal with this disease process because of them- they’ve given us more than any doctor or provider has taught us. Because of them, I’m reminded daily that life can go on and more im... more

  • A life raft for T1D Parents

As the mom of a newly diagnosed T1D 7yo, I felt like I was drowning until I found this podcast. Listening to Raquel and Amanda gives me the peace of mind and confidence to help my daughter not only survive, but thrive. I would recommend this to anyone who has someone close to them in their life with T1D.

Episode 134 - Metal Health & T1D: Practical Tips from Rukiyyah Khan
Q: Can you kind of start just by diving into your own T1D journey?
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as an adult, with a family history and a realization that management would require a long-term commitment. My experience highlighted the emotional impact of diagnosis, the importance of education from a diabetes educator who also lived with T1D, and the need to integrate mental health awareness into ongoing care.
Episode 133: When Your Glucose Starts to “Glow”
Q: How can Glowcose be used in classrooms or with siblings?
In classrooms, the color-changing globe helps non-diabetic students recognize when a classmate's glucose is changing and fosters support, while helping siblings and teachers understand when to check in without constant device alarms.
Episode 133: When Your Glucose Starts to “Glow”
Q: How did Glowcose originate and what problem does it solve for families?
The device started as a visual cue tied to the CGM to help the author's wife monitor her glucose in a non-intrusive way, then evolved into a product used by others after feedback from coworkers and parents; it aims to reduce alarm fatigue and provide a simple, at-a-glance indicator that complements existing CGMs.
Episode 131 - T1D Mom Life With Stacey Simms
Q: What advice do you have for new diagnoses families regarding independence and CGM?
Advice centers on gradual independence for the child, balancing supervision with letting them perform tasks themselves, and using technology thoughtfully to empower rather than overwhelm, including conversations about limits and the long-term goal of college and life outside home.
Episode 131 - T1D Mom Life With Stacey Simms
Q: What are the challenges of co-parenting and managing diabetes together?
She shares that differing parenting styles between her and her spouse required negotiation, with one partner being more structured and the other more laid back, and emphasizes empathy, communication, and letting go at appropriate ages to keep the child thriving.
