I love hearing Bruce fellow admirers explaining personal meanings they have found in Springsteen lyrics. Some very touching stories.
These episodes are my favorite 15 minutes of the day each time they come out! Thanks, Ted.
This was another stellar edition.
The famous advice for all authors is: Write what you know.
Bruce’s self-proclaimed “Magic trick” is his ability to write so personally, and yet so much of us is reflected in his lyrics.
This is the case yet again with this song.
At that point, “beach bum” Bruce’s world was so small, Sandy and what she represented was the whole universe to him.
And yet, in some way, a... more
Just like it is for so many Bruce songs and so many of your episodes, something that feels so personal is really a common bond with all Bruce fans. I count Terry’s Song as one my touchstones in Bruce’s catalog. It never fails to bring chills and even elicit tears. It’s a testament to his otherworldly talent and his own admission that he is but a vessel. He writes what is personal to him, and in doing so, he writes for all of us.

This a really an engaging listen for all fans of Springsteen. For me personally, the lyric is often what draws me in to a particular song and this is a nice listen because it’s always cool to hear what lyric draws others in and hearing their opinion & take on it. Great podcast!
Recently discovered this podcast and listened to every episode over the next 5-6 days. Each persons unique interpretation of these lyrics has me re-listening to the songs like it was the first time. Brilliant. Keep ‘em coming!!
I didn’t just listen to this podcast, I devoured it. A remarkable idea beautifully executed by Ted Canova who is a talented and empathetic interviewer. I enjoyed each episode and challenged myself to find “that one lyric”. It isn’t easy. Highly recommended if you love music, Bruce and the magic of music.
I hope you’re coming back!
Glad these podcasts are back. Was none fir few weeks there and I missed them. Keep up the good work I love hearing people’s take on lyrics and songs. They all mean so much to us in so many different ways.
I love this song and that particular lyric always grabbed me. The discussion was insightful and gave me a new way of looking at many aspects of the songs and revealed many assumptions that I made about the song. For example, I always assumed the main character was returning from Viet Nam. But there is no mention of the war, any war for that matter, in the song.
I've been following Bruce since I was a young teen. I would not call myself a "fan": it would be reductive, as Bruce for me is more than someone to be fan of, as it is more like a father. I've seen in his music something that enlighten my life, and this podcast is an absolute treasure, as it goes deep in the impact that lyrics have on real lives. And last but not least, I think I am one of the few Italian listeners, so I’ll definitely spread the word! Thank you Ted for this great job! CIAO Carlo... more
Lovely idea for a podcast, great takes on some fantastic lyrics
Well done Ted
Love the Pod! As a podcaster and Bruce-Mega-Fan I enjoy listening but am a bit disgruntled, I did not start this podcast myself. ;-)

The Andy Berke interview is exactly the kind of interview I want to hear from anyone holding or seeking office. Platforms are good. But what I want to know is how do you make decisions, how will you stand up when it’s easy not to. Hooked now.
Can’t wait for Wednesday to come around each week to hear the next one. “The mayor” was superb today. Love them all so far. Gives us all a different insight into each song. It’s great to hear other people’s view of a song snd indeed that one lyric. Hope there is lots more to come.
What a fantastic podcast. Absolutely loving it. Bruce and his songs/lyrics have kept me going through some grey times and this podcast just provides me with such a boost.
