  • Interesting Show, Obnoxious Ads

3x pre-roll ads, 15 seconds of real intro, followed by 4x more long ads? Are you kidding me.

I respect TED and benefit from their broad scope of content. That does not justify packing this many ads into your podcasts. Pushing out ad-farm episodes tarnishes the journalists’ reputations, and makes their guests look like they’re being milked for cash imo.

I find it insulting, as if they don’t value my time, or think their podcast is more valuable than it is. A sub-20 minute podcast made of clips ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why humans should merge with AI | D. Scott Phoenix
Q: Is the fear about AI more about the terms of deployment than AI itself?
Yes, the discussion should focus on the terms of engagement, including who controls the deployment, the design of systems, and how power is distributed, not just the capabilities of AI.
Why humans should merge with AI | D. Scott Phoenix
Q: What do you think people are really afraid of losing?
People fear losing freedom, their minds, sense of self, and personal meaning, especially if AI starts to redefine what work and value look like for individuals.
Why living online is leaving us exhausted — and what actually helps (with Manoush Zomorodi and Elise Hu) | from TED Talks Daily
Q: My first question is how to think about how we can remain human inside systems that are changing faster than we are.
The approach is to build a personal movement through small, intentional actions like movement breaks, mindful device use, and creating a flexible balance that respects individual flow while prioritizing well-being and social connection.
Why AI isn't going to become conscious | Anil Seth
Q: So what really happens when the machine crosses over and starts talking back? When it remembers your name, when it says it understands, is anyone actually in there?
Anil Seth explains that these are sophisticated simulations of behavior and language rather than evidence of true consciousness. He argues the crucial distinction is between acting like a mind and actually being one, rooted in biology and life rather than computation alone.
The hidden health benefits of wearables technology with Michael Snyder
Q: Michael, you describe yourself as medicine's most measured man. So, tell me at what point you decided you could not live without this measurement and monitoring as part of your life.
He explains that after moving to Stanford and seeing the potential of big data in health, continuous measurement became essential for baseline understanding, early detection, and empowering personal health decisions.
