  • Interesting Show, Obnoxious Ads

3x pre-roll ads, 15 seconds of real intro, followed by 4x more long ads? Are you kidding me.

I respect TED and benefit from their broad scope of content. That does not justify packing this many ads into your podcasts. Pushing out ad-farm episodes tarnishes the journalists’ reputations, and makes their guests look like they’re being milked for cash imo.

I find it insulting, as if they don’t value my time, or think their podcast is more valuable than it is. A sub-20 minute podcast made of clips ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The hidden health benefits of wearables technology with Michael Snyder
Q: Michael, you describe yourself as medicine's most measured man. So, tell me at what point you decided you could not live without this measurement and monitoring as part of your life.
He explains that after moving to Stanford and seeing the potential of big data in health, continuous measurement became essential for baseline understanding, early detection, and empowering personal health decisions.
Sherrell's Top 5 (#3): How one of China’s biggest tech companies is tackling carbon removal with Xu Hao
Q: What are the biggest challenges and roadblocks you worry about as you pursue these ambitious goals?
There's no guaranteed winner among competing technologies; we must pursue multiple pathways (nuclear, CCUS, hydrogen) in parallel, because urgency requires trying many options and scaling them all.
Sherrell's Top 5 (#3): How one of China’s biggest tech companies is tackling carbon removal with Xu Hao
Q: Looking ahead to 2030, is there a particular technology you think will move the needle on climate change for Tencent and the broader industry?
Electrification and the deployment of renewables, storage, heat pumps, and a second wave targeting hard-to-abate sectors will drive decarbonization, with a broader mix of technologies maturing and becoming cost-effective.
Sherrell's Top 5 (#3): How one of China’s biggest tech companies is tackling carbon removal with Xu Hao
Q: CarbonX specifically focuses on hard to abate industries and technologies like CCUS. What do you see as the single biggest misconception or challenge that needs to be overcome for carbon removal technologies to achieve widespread adoption?
The main barrier is cost today; we must push the technology forward to reduce cost and enable scaling so these solutions can have a material impact.
How to pick the right path forward with AI with Alvin W. Graylin and Manoush Zomorodi
Q: What concrete steps can business leaders take today to integrate AI responsibly without ripping out jobs?
Focus on integrating AI to increase efficiency while retraining and reallocating staff, adopting shorter work weeks where appropriate, and investing in reskilling programs to soften displacement while maintaining momentum.
