  • On its way to AI slop

It was a good show, sadly slowly it turned from tech news into tech CEO news or news about tech “celebrities”, to so much AI-this-AI-that; constantly hyping this technology that has no mainstream real use by distracting with edge use cases. Most recently now AI is part of its production as well. I’m out.

I supposed it’s still a good show for some people but those aren’t whoever is looking for actual tech news.

  • Not as reliable as it once was

I’ve been listening to the WSJ’s news podcasts for a decade now and lately I have noticed a discernible change in their focus.

There is a ‘subject bias’ or a highly narrow ‘cultural focus’ such that, while they still report the facts & news, there is an unavoidable hyperfocus on right & far-right-leaning topics/subjects that, in whole, are not reflective of the tech or business worlds.

I've already unsubscribed from ‘What’s News’ and ‘Tech News Briefing’ may be next.

    **sigh**

  • Now 60% Ads

The Tech Minute is bookended with 30 s-1 min long ads on each end. That’s a lot of ads for a minute long show.

  • Readers aren’t good

Why not replace robotic human readers that have speech and maturity challenges with AI generated voices? Current “hosts” add nothing to the content they are mechanically reading

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Siri’s Second Act
Q: How is that possible?
The guest explains that the breakthrough comes from the model autonomously synthesizing knowledge from multiple mathematical disciplines and presenting a verifiable chain of thought, which external mathematicians then scrutinized before endorsement.
Robotaxis Are Having a Bumpy Rollout
Q: After you're reporting, do you think that this backlash is different or part of the same pattern?
The discussion suggests that resistance to new technology often follows a pattern of initial skepticism followed by gradual acceptance, though the robo-taxi disruption may be uniquely persistent due to visible incidents and ongoing community impact.
Robotaxis Are Having a Bumpy Rollout
Q: So Sean, what are robo-taxis doing that have communities up in arms?
The issues include reckless driving, driving through quiet neighborhood streets, blocking traffic, and driving into flooded roads, which people find concerning and potentially dangerous; these behaviors prompt questions about safety beyond traditional crash metrics.
Inside SpaceX’s Blockbuster IPO Filing
Q: Why is Musk's voting power such a focal point for investors?
Because the 85 percent voting power concentrated in Musk's hands means very little can be decided without his approval, which raises concerns about minority investor influence and corporate governance.
TNB Tech Minute: Cerebras Stock Soars Nearly 70% in Nasdaq Debut
Q: What can leaders do to keep people at the center of the workplace in the AI era?
Leaders should focus on preserving top talent by emphasizing human-centric strategies, ensuring employees feel valued, and differentiating the company not just by AI tools but by the quality and engagement of its people.
