  • On its way to AI slop

It was a good show, sadly slowly it turned from tech news into tech CEO news or news about tech “celebrities”, to so much AI-this-AI-that; constantly hyping this technology that has no mainstream real use by distracting with edge use cases. Most recently now AI is part of its production as well. I’m out.

I supposed it’s still a good show for some people but those aren’t whoever is looking for actual tech news.

  • Not as reliable as it once was

I’ve been listening to the WSJ’s news podcasts for a decade now and lately I have noticed a discernible change in their focus.

There is a ‘subject bias’ or a highly narrow ‘cultural focus’ such that, while they still report the facts & news, there is an unavoidable hyperfocus on right & far-right-leaning topics/subjects that, in whole, are not reflective of the tech or business worlds.

I've already unsubscribed from ‘What’s News’ and ‘Tech News Briefing’ may be next.

    **sigh**

  • Now 60% Ads

The Tech Minute is bookended with 30 s-1 min long ads on each end. That’s a lot of ads for a minute long show.

  • Readers aren’t good

Why not replace robotic human readers that have speech and maturity challenges with AI generated voices? Current “hosts” add nothing to the content they are mechanically reading

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Quantum’s Leap Into Public Markets
Q: Do you think we're going to hear that more layoffs are coming?
Most calls will focus on numbers and strategic narratives rather than forecasting more layoffs, so any discussion of future headcount will likely be cautious and limited.
Quantum’s Leap Into Public Markets
Q: What are you going to be listening for on upcoming tech earnings calls from Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Google?
Markets want to see whether AI investments are beginning to pay off or if the trend is still piling in costs without clear revenue returns, with emphasis on how budgets and headcount align with AI initiatives.
Quantum’s Leap Into Public Markets
Q: So Dan, when Metta and Microsoft announced cuts last week, the market for tech jobs was already looking bleak. Can you set the scene for us?
The wave of layoffs is ongoing, with some companies aiming to boost AI investments to do more with less, but investors are watching closely to see if cost cuts translate into sustained earnings and whether AI initiatives actually pay off.
Tesla Reverses Course on Self-Driving Promise
Q: Becky, can you walk us through what some of these customers are saying?
Customers paid thousands for FSD upgrades and feel misled by marketing promises, leading to lawsuits seeking refunds and damages, as well as actions around class action status in California.
Why Software Updates Are Suddenly More Urgent
Q: So, the headline of your story is that we need to start paying attention to those software updates. Why is it more important to keep up now?
The guest emphasizes that in the AI era, any new model or tool can introduce new vulnerabilities, and ongoing updates are essential to close security holes before hackers exploit them, protecting both devices and users across ecosystems.
