  • A bit dreary and tedious

I started listening a couple of months ago and really enjoy the interviews with runners. The only problem is that to listen to them you have to trudge through the half and hour or so of weekly update of ‘ooh my breakfast was too hot and my knee was a bit niggly before my long run’ or ‘I bought a meal deal on the way home from swimming’ which doesn’t grab my attention at all. Despite this the podcast is well presented and produced but not for me.

  • The AI for the episode description and guest intros is terrible. Other than that solid running chat but #ad heavy

  • Great Listen

Great listen when out for a long run. Don’t know how they stay so cheery and fresh for two hours every week. Love listening to the interviews. My favourite podcast at the moment.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Freya Shepherd - West Highland Way - Great Glen FKT #219
Q: What was the biggest change between the October attempt and the second run?
The second attempt benefited from more winter climbing, better hip work, and a more consistent sleep/eating routine, which helped her manage foot pain and overall endurance.
Barney Plummer - 2026 Fellsman Champ #215
Q: What was going through your head during the crucial late-race stretch on The Lap?
Barney explains he focused on maintaining a sustainable effort, recognizing the distance left, and resisting the urge to push too hard too soon, while using brief chases with rivals to measure pace and keep a strong finish in sight.
Stair Steppers & The Back to Back Long Run #216
Q: In your practice, how exactly do you use the stair stepper as part of training, and is it a substitute for hill work or an additional tool?
We describe the stair stepper as a very specific cross-training tool that mimics uphill stepping with less impact on the joints, useful for offload days, endurance building, and targeted leg strength. The intensity and duration should be tailored to the athlete; you can do short, higher-intensity intervals or longer, steadier efforts, and combine with running on easier days to balance load.
Fi Pascall - 2026 Western States Preview #207
Q: Can you describe the mental strategies you use at the start lines to deal with stress and imposter syndrome?
Fi practices breathing, visualizations of her dogs at dawn, and maintains a calm, steady rhythm to reduce anxiety before pushing into the race, highlighting the role of mental state in endurance performance.
Fi Pascall - 2026 Western States Preview #207
Q: How did you handle the heat during Western States, and what impact did ice have on your race?
Ice was crucial in keeping core temperature down; she used multiple ice pockets and a bandana to stay cool at aid stations, which helped manage hyperglycemia and maintain performance in extreme heat.
