  • Knowing is half the battle

Started a reread of the marvel comics run while on family leave so figured I’d look for some discussion - this hits the spot! Both hosts seem like cool guys that are fairly deep into Joe lore without being obnoxious about it. Only listened to 3 episodes so far but I’ll be sticking around for the remaining missions.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

TJ 375 - Howard Porter interview (audio only) Copperhead G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero Sssilent Missions - Talking Joe
Q: What inspired the choice of a swamp setting and Copperhead's vehicle design in this story, and how did you approach wordless storytelling?
Porter discusses researching Copperhead, leaning into his origins, and using the swamp as a meaningful backdrop that ties to the character's past. He explains that wordless storytelling relies on visual movement and character expressions, and that he purposely used splash pages and dynamic panels to convey motion and emotion without dialogue.
TJ 375 - Howard Porter interview (audio only) Copperhead G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero Sssilent Missions - Talking Joe
Q: How did you become involved with Skybound for these two covers, and what drew you back to GI Joe after working with DC for years?
Porter explains that after spending many years at DC with demanding deadlines, a fortuitous call from Ben Abernathy at Skybound offered him a chance to draw and connect with Copperhead again. He describes rekindling his love for the character through the back-and-forth, embracing the momentum and producing more work for Skybound, which he believes will continue.
TJ 351 - G.I JOE ARAH 323 AUDIO ONLY REVIEW with Artist Paul Pelletier
Q: When did you start drawing issue 323, and was there any rush to meet the deadline?
Paul explains the schedule shifted to have him jump on issues 322-324 with a compressed timeline, but he still completed it within the normal amount of time for his process, just a bit tighter than usual.
TJ 360 - G.I. JOE 18 audio only - with guest Marco Fodera - Roadblock - Energon Universe
Q: What was it like returning to GI Joe for a second time?
Marco describes it as fun and challenging, noting the opportunity to refine his approach while meeting familiar expectations, and he enjoyed collaborating with Williamson and Skybound to shape a second appearance.
TJ 361 - Will Rosado Interview - GI Joe artist for Marvel & IDW
Q: What differences did he notice between working on GI Joe in Marvel's era and later at IDW?
By IDW, he had more time and freedom, could craft loadouts and character appearances more personally, and could approach the material with digital tools and broader storytelling latitude, compared with the hurried, on-model demands of the Marvel era.
