Metal Dave and Jason do a fantastic job with this podcast. This is absolutely my favorite music podcast. Big fan of the Toys and was lucky to see them several times.

I would love for you all to interview Salty Dog. I know Jason was a fan of this band. Michael Hannon would be a great interview. No complaints here and keep up the excellent work!!!

This is great stuff. Most podcasts are boring drivel that loses my interest. I got into the game late and went back to the beginning and started from Episode 1. Keep up the greatness Jared, Jason and Dave!!!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

John Moyer
Q: How did you approach producing a record for Geoff Tate, given the expectations around Operation Mindcrime I and II?
John explains that he had a clear vision to honor Mindcrime I while expanding its musical and thematic scope, working to ensure the new material fit within the Mindcrime universe but still sounded contemporary and dynamic.
Ronnie Younkins
Q: What was the catalyst for Ronnie's departure from the band between mid-80s records?
Ronnie attributes it to drugs, alcohol, attitude issues, and a lack of learning from his situation at the time, which ultimately led to his temporary replacement and a necessary period away from the band to recover.
Jeff Duncan
Q: What's different about the guitar tone on the new record compared to prior Armored Saint albums?
Jeff describes using a 50-watt EVH stealth head into a JMP Marshall cab, with a Les Paul, aiming for a loud, organic, room-filling rock tone rather than relying on modeling amps.
Jeff Duncan
Q: Tell us about the song Buckeye and how the slide guitar part came to be.
Jeff explains that Buckeye originated from a John/Joey collaboration with slide added by Joey, using open D tuning for a distinct feel, and that he contributed the main slide solo influenced by Rod Price of Foghat.
Brian Greenway: April Wine
Q: What was the story behind the King Crimson cover on Harder Faster?
Miles suggested the idea; the band tracked bed parts in multiple takes and then had Brian sing the vocals after the bed tracks were laid, with a distinctive direct-instrument approach to the guitar tone.
