  • Bias

Not bad on Irish topics. Shows total bias on US issues. Instead of trying to see both sides, is yet another tiresome Trump bashing podcast. Mandy casually calling Trump a racist. MSNBC with a shamrock on it.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Death of the Petrodollar, healthcare economics and board fatigue
Q: First up, Brendan, can you explain to our listeners what the Petrodollar is and the concept behind it?
The Petrodollar is a story tying the dollar's value to oil transactions priced in dollars, a system that began in the 1970s after the U.S. moved off the gold standard; meanwhile, offshore dollars created by private banks continue to proliferate, supported by swap lines and U.S. policy tools that backstop dollar liquidity globally.
The Great Resignation, Global debt and changing shopping habits
Q: What is the better way to discern a country's indebtedness besides debt-to-GDP?
An adjusted gross national income figure, as produced by the Statistics Office, provides a broader comparability to GDP and helps gauge indebtedness more accurately across countries.
The unintended ‘green’ consequences of global conflict
Q: What messages do you take from the airline decisions, such as cancellations and fleet reductions, for travelers and the broader economy?
Anita explains that high fuel costs, aircraft grounding, and capacity constraints translate into higher fares and fewer seats, while the shift toward regional and near-home travel may persist if confidence and price competitiveness hold; she also notes costs of fuel hedging and the importance of reconfiguring networks.
The unintended ‘green’ consequences of global conflict
Q: What is Simon Harris talking about bringing to the budget this year and how might it change things for everyday savers?
The host and Fiona discuss a proposed savings/investment vehicle aimed at reducing tax on gains and enabling access to investment options, noting that details are not fully clear yet and that banks and brokers are preparing product ideas to align with this potential policy shift.
The unintended ‘green’ consequences of global conflict
Q: First off, Fiona, what is the state of play with Irish savings at the moment?
Fiona explains that Ireland has a large pool of deposits and a culture of saving, but returns are weak on overnight deposits; the discussion then contrasts local savings behavior with international models like ISAs in the UK and similar Swedish instruments, highlighting tax treatment and accessibility as critical factors in shifting money from deposits to investments.
