  • Legendary Heidi Hatch

Heidi is a classy reporter and a great moderator. Even though I dislike the views and debate style of Greg Hughes, Heidi does her best to make the conversations productive. I love the other guests.

  • Mostly Interesting Podcast

OMG Maura needs to run for something. Super smart and is great at messaging (something the Dems really need right now) I always prefer shows with both sides presented so this is very good - especially for local issues.

  • I like this podcast as a Utahn. Heidi does an excellent job moderating. I would only give it four and a half stars if I could, however, because Greg Hughes has such unsupportable and ridiculous positions. He just sets himself up as a target for Maura to skewer. I've enjoyed it much more when other, more serious and thoughtful conservative commentators have been guests.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Take 2 Podcast: Legislative Session Day
Q: Is the gas-tax relief proposal realistic, and what would dropping the gas tax actually do to prices?
Opponents argue the relief is too simplistic and will be offset by refinery costs; proponents say the plan would lower prices by a modest amount while broadening the tax base for long-term stability.
Take 2 Podcast: Legislative Session Day
Q: Speaker, you get to go first. Tell me how this works, because if you're wanting to cut from everyone's budgets, but also give everyone a cut at home, how does that work?
The approach is to look inside departments, identify efficiencies, and reallocate money to higher-priority needs, rather than broad cuts; education would not be cut but may see reallocation, and the aim is to fund tax cuts gradually over time.
Take 2 Podcast: Sen. John Curtis shares why he believes stalemate was 'pre-determined'
Q: What concessions are you personally willing to make?
Curtis expresses reluctance to agree to major concessions for a short-term government extension, emphasizing the need to resolve underlying legislative priorities.
Take 2 Podcast: Sen. John Curtis shares why he believes stalemate was 'pre-determined'
Q: What do you think it's going to take to break this stalemate?
Curtis outlines several pressure points, particularly highlighting the impact of SNAP benefits ending for many Utah families as a crucial point that could drive immediate action.
Take 2: Utah Legislature this week; National headlines
Q: Mara, is this a good move that helps in the overall problem or are jail beds not the issue?
I do like the sales tax option because it captures the spirit of Salt Lake County's jail system.
