Whether you are interested in practical ideas and tips for small-scale farms, or the latest in farm policy, this is one of the best podcasts I’ve found. • Educational and impartial

I work in the food industry, and although this show is largely focused on the UK, they bring up a range of interesting topics. They are largely focused on sustainability and new food trends, and bring in new people to talk about it.

Also, they do not seem quite as biased, as many other podcasts within the field are. This podcast mainly has intellectuals and people with an extensive experience within the relevant field.

    Excited for new releases!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

617: Women's health - what does evidence-based retail actually look like?
Q: What role do wearables and at-home testing play in personalized nutrition for women?
Wearables and at-home testing provide data to tailor recommendations, but must be accessible, affordable, and interpreted with education to avoid data overwhelm and ensure real health outcomes.
617: Women's health - what does evidence-based retail actually look like?
Q: How do you communicate complex science to consumers without just following trends?
Content is backed by science reviews, with training for store colleagues and dedicated science communication (sci-coms) to transparently explain the basis of advice and product claims.
618: Are food industry innovators making the most of AI?
Q: How do we ensure there is a pipeline of talent that can oversee AI-augmented product development?
New recruits often lack familiarity with AI in practice, so companies and universities must collaborate to build skills in AI for food science, with a focus on guidance, mentorship, and hands-on training that keeps humans in the loop to apply judgment at key decisions.
619: The algorithm of appetite - where flavour trends are heading next
Q: In the CSD space, how do you think divisive flavors perform, and when should a brand take a bold risk vs. staying mainstream?
Be bold when you have a clear target market and a plan to measure available market and potential return; a Marmite-type product can spark conversation and visibility, but you must expect mixed reactions and have a plan to leverage social media.
615: Food Historian Annie Gray and PepsiCo's Rob Lowery on trends, health and the modern consumer
Q: How do you qualify whether a trend is truly taking hold versus a temporary fad?
We assess potential by watching consumer behavior across contexts, including digital signals from younger demographics and the velocity of adoption, but we also consider whether the concept aligns with durable needs and can scale without losing credibility.
