  • Substitutes in County Cricket

Matt Roller having no issues with the new injury substitutes rule in county cricket astonishes me! Make no mistake if the current rule on injury substitutes continues, tactical substitutes will follow! But hey ho who cares about the history of red ball county cricket and the entire ethos of it being a game of skill, fitness and twists and turns played over four days! With captains (among

many other decisions and considerations), forced to manage their bowlers workloads! Why not go the whole hog ... more

  • Totally Over The Top

Clearly an indictment of our recent lack of success are the utterly over the top plaudits for Jacob Bethell. His current record is 6 first innings in tests for 55 runs and 5 of those at number 3 for 49 runs!!! Yet he’s being compared to Gower, Thorpe and even Lara! I was as thrilled as anyone about his wonderful 154 in the second innings at Sydney but when he starts scoring lots of first innings runs and big hundreds to set up the game, i’ll happily start to believe the hype! If Pope had scored... more

  • I blame the media

Our media’s indulgence of “Bazball” has fully allowed the lunatics to take over the asylum! The kool aid drinking written, spoken and every other type of cricketing media have allowed their clearly knowledgeable judgement to be infiltrated by the utter nonsense gleefully relayed to them by Key, McCullum and Stokes! Meanwhile we failed to win the Ashes at home, got utterly thrashed in India, failed to beat India at home and arguably worst of all, that has hardly been commented on, refused to even... more

  • Cummins Injury

It always surprises me with the amnesia that occurs amongst so-called experts!! On Cummins’ injury: “neutrals want to see the best versus the best”! Who exactly are the neutrals in an Ashes series? Do we not remember McGrath’s injury in 2005 was arguably the most important factor to England regaining the Ashes! I am not sure many England cricket fans reflected back on what a disappointment it was that we didn’t see McGrath for all five tests!! Come on guys you are better than this with your vir... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Knocking down an open door
Q: What do you think you've learned in the time out of the team?
There's been a lot going on, but now the mind is clear, cricket is the focus, the love for the game is back, and there's a renewed readiness to contribute at the international level.
Brook side drama rumbles on
Q: What sort of result at this World Cup does McCullum need to guarantee keeping the job?
It's expected that if England do not reach the semifinals, McCullum's position could be under threat. Even if they reach the semifinals and underperform, it may not be enough to secure his future as coach.
New season, fresh vibe
Q: How are the leg breaks coming out?
They're coming out all right, optimistically. Spring is always my favorite season.
New season, fresh vibe
Q: Miller, where did it all go wrong?
It was a weird thought; James Anderson should have been picked for the 100 to appeal to family audiences.
ESPNcricinfo presents... Powerplay! Nat Sciver-Brunt: Payday, payday… WPL incoming
Q: Do you want a set window for the WPL and should there have been one from day one?
Nat hopes for the future establishment of windows for leagues, emphasizing the need for balance between international commitments and league play.
