Q: What are some of the biggest challenges or unmet needs you commonly see in this patient population?

A key challenge is that many patients receive care that could and should be handled by primary care providers, including diagnostic mammograms and routine blood work, which leads to confusion and fragmented care. Establishing outside primary care connections is essential to avoid unnecessary tests and ensure appropriate, coordinated care.

Pancreas-seq GC provides high sensitivity and specificity for mucinous cysts and advanced neoplasia, offering independent molecular evidence of progression. Clinically, results should be integrated with imaging, cyst size, growth rate, and patient factors to tailor management, potentially enabling more conservative approaches for low-risk profiles while identifying those needing closer surveillance or intervention.

Q: Tell us about the methodology of the study and why it was performed that way.

The study built on a prior 2023 Gastroenterology study and Panitchia paper, using 246 banked pancreatic cyst specimens from 31 institutions. It employed a double-blinded validation of the Pancreas-seq GC (a 74-gene DNA+RNA panel) and compared its performance against traditional modalities, with testing performed independently at a non-affiliated center to minimize bias.
