  • For camping newbies, not for anyone with experience

I have not learned anything new from this podcast. I’m not a super experienced camper but have camped a few times per year since I was a kid, and done some backcountry in there too. This podcast is not for someone who regularly camps. But it could be useful for brand new campers with little or no experience. I think that is what it’s aimed at. All the new campers that are starting camping because of the pandemic.

Travel Stories That Stay With You
Q: What was the process like to write the book, and how did you convert travel memories into a publishable story?
Melissa describes how long bus rides and emails from internet cafes evolved into a narrative that she refined over years, eventually dusting off the manuscript when the time felt right, and recognizing that reflections and growth over time enriched the book's honesty.
Travel Stories That Stay With You
Q: What started the traveling bug for you, and how did early experiences shape your later work as a writer and traveler?
Her curiosity was sparked in childhood, moving from Ontario to Australia and back, where adventures seemed possible everywhere, and this laid the foundation for a lifelong passion that eventually led to writing about travels and the people met along the way.
Travel Stories That Stay With You
Q: So is the story behind the hook we're using for today's episode going to reveal what happened on that infamous Laos bus ride?
Yes, Melissa explains that the Laos overnight bus trip was among the worst and became a vivid catalyst for her understanding how travel can push you to the edge, which then fed into the collection of stories in The People You Meet.
Campfire Ovens And Canadian Gear
Q: What's the next big camping trip for you guys?
Denis plans to undertake a yearly winter camping trip to Mew Lake with friends.
