  • Incredibly useful

I always find the information to be useful and informative. Without SLP I would be left in the dark and I wouldn’t know when to check on my loans or change my payment plans. Travis is well informed and I always look forward to updates from him. The only feed back I have for the podcast is that when Travis is on with another host he often interrupts the other speakers and it’s hard for the others to get a word in.

  • Invaluable Up-to-Date Info

Travis and his team at SLP Wealth make discussions about complicated tax policy and personal finance comprehensible, effectively interpreting the latest policy decisions and their potential implications for student loan borrowers.

I wasn't paid or otherwise incentivized to post this review. But as a government attorney with significant law school debt, I anticipate becoming an SLP Wealth client in the near future.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is Student Loan Forgiveness Dead?
Q: If one spouse's loans are forgiven and the other's aren't, could that lower the total payment for the couple due to proportional calculation?
Yes, the proportional calculation could result in a lower combined payment after forgiveness applies to one side, but the exact impact depends on the total balance and filing status; the host notes that this is a nuanced area with potential changes near forgiveness events.
Is Student Loan Forgiveness Dead?
Q: With the SAFE Plan interest subsidy, what are the chances of retroactive relief for interest that accrued during forbearance given the current rulings?
Retroactive relief is unlikely because rulings have limited retroactive impact and the SAVE plan subsidies were not sustained; borrowers should plan for continued interest accrual and focus on more certain relief paths when possible.
Is Student Loan Forgiveness Dead?
Q: Hi, Travis. My husband is going back to dental school and we're worried about deferment versus IVR and how it affects forgiveness timelines. What should we be doing in the next two years while he's in the specialty program?
The smart move is to minimize new federal borrowing, try to stay out of or carefully manage in-school deferments if possible, and plan for how recertification and income declaration will interact with IVR or other IDR options after the program ends; avoid abrupt changes that could jeopardize qualification for forgiveness once the program ends.
What Will Students and Parents Do This Fall?
Q: Is it better to borrow privately for my child's education instead of Parent PLUS after July 2026?
For some families, it might be wiser to consider private loans or home equity options than taking out Parent PLUS loans after July 2026, to avoid losing access to flexible repayment plans.
What Will Students and Parents Do This Fall?
Q: Should I consolidate my Parent PLUS loans?
Consolidating your Parent PLUS loans might seem beneficial, but it can lead to loss of access to income-driven repayment plans depending on when you take out new loans.
