  • Great investing podcast

They’re clear it’s not investing advice, but I get a lot of ideas from the guests. Very excellent podcast.

  • Seeking Vindication

Inane presenters looking for headline ‘bets’ coupled with analysts trying to provide nuance…often a painful listen. Additionally guests are frequently “gurus” buying into manias (crypto or buy Nvidia at $400). There are certainly more serious places for insight out there.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trend following, technical analysis and why price means everything
Q: Walk us through the metrics you focus on and how you decide to buy or sell.
I rely on TrendSpider scanners to surface leaders based on earnings growth and momentum, then use Sidekick AI to rank them by potential, followed by manual chart review using EMAs, trailing stops, and momentum filters to determine entries and exits.
What's driving the price of gold
Q: How do you view the role of currencies in the macro picture for investors?
Currencies are generally weak across the board from a relative value standpoint, with the dollar serving as a deep, liquid funding currency; exchange rate movements interact with risk sentiment and policy expectations, but there isn't a single compelling alternative currency.
What's driving the price of gold
Q: How do ETFs like GLD fit into the picture for retail investors interested in gold or miners?
ETFs tend to be large and have structural issues in replenishing mined gold; they're more limited in providing true exposure to mining equities, which is better accessed through active, selectively funded vehicles rather than broad ETFs.
What's driving the price of gold
Q: What would you say about the miners as they move along with the price of gold?
Miners offer different risk profiles between majors and juniors; ETFs are not well suited for mining due to dispersion of risks and illiquidity, so active management and selective funding (often via private channels) can provide alpha beyond just gold price moves.
3 growth & income stocks to buy + Steve answers your questions
Q: Why bother with QG&I when you could invest in well-established ETFs like SCHD?
The guest argues that while ETFs offer low-maintenance exposure, the Quant Growth and Income portfolio historically delivered higher returns (e.g., 502% since 2015 versus 203% for the index), justifying the extra effort and potential for greater long-term wealth generation.
