  • The Guardian or Pravda?

Came for the Mary Beard review which was terrific as always. Stayed on the channel only to hear a half hour on Gaza genocide. Obviously this is the Guardian’s position but most of the non Guardians world know that despite a horrible war, there is no genocide save for the genocidal intent of Hamas. But sure, let the former grand old newspaper of note share these ideas with their echo chamber while its readership abandons this Pravda-esque publication.

An informative, fresh perspective. Hosts have good chemistry. Kai’s name seems so familiar. Turns out I probably read him in The Blade, know of him from NPR. And we both got out of Indianapolis!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

She spent years trying to be thin. What happened when she bulked instead?
Q: What would you tell listeners who are curious about strength training but worry about societal expectations or body image pressures?
Seek reliable, science-based sources, recognize that each body responds differently, and prioritize enjoyment and health over achieving a particular look; consider stepping back from constant social media input to protect your relationship with training and food.
She spent years trying to be thin. What happened when she bulked instead?
Q: How did bulking affect your relationship with food and body image?
Bulking shifted the focus from chasing thinness to fueling performance, which helped reduce food anxiety over time, though monitoring could become rigid; discussing it with experts helped maintain a healthier balance.
She spent years trying to be thin. What happened when she bulked instead?
Q: What were the practical steps you took to bulk, and how did your body respond?
I increased my calories above maintenance, paid attention to protein, and focused on progressive overload in training; initially it felt disorienting but my energy and lifting capabilities improved, and I experienced a sense of internal warmth and sustained momentum.
She spent years trying to be thin. What happened when she bulked instead?
Q: What sparked your decision to start bulking, and how did you approach it?
I decided to bulk because I wanted to break the cycle of dieting and starving myself; I planned for a caloric surplus, learned how to fuel appropriately, and leaned into weight training to build strength and energy.
How Trump made it harder to fight the cyclospora parasite outbreak
Q: Broadly, how have those agencies been changed under the Trump administration?
The host asks about cuts to the CDC and FDA, funding reductions at the state level, and the impact on outbreak tracing, with emphasis on how these changes have weakened surveillance, lab capacity, and ability to respond to parasite outbreaks.
