S8 E6 Lupus and the Skin
Q: How is systemic lupus diagnosed given the lack of a single definitive test?
Diagnosis is made by integrating clinical patterns, histology when needed, and systemic investigations including autoimmune serology, kidney and urine tests, and consideration of organ involvement to establish the likelihood of lupus.
S8 E6 Lupus and the Skin
Q: What is lupus and why is it considered a protean disease with varied organ involvement?
Lupus is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks multiple organs, including skin, joints, kidneys, and internal organs; its presentation varies widely between patients, which is why diagnosis relies on patterns across history, examination, and targeted tests.

Diagnosing pyoderma can be challenging, usually requiring biopsy and exclusion of other conditions.
