  • Great content and very relevant

I had been listening to these podcast for past few months on my drive to work. Absolutely enjoyed with great content, highly informed presenters and very much to the point without wasting anytime. The audio quality is a let down. The music is very clear but sometimes it’s very difficult to hear the presenter especially if you are driving. I crank the volume all the way up and still not good enough. If I forgot to tone it down by the end, the music will be super loud. Please fix the audio issue.

  • Great program

    Thanks for such great podcasts!

Just wondering if you could do a quick podcast on what to do when a naturopath wants very specific bloods to be ordered for a patient, but you don’t deem it to be clinically necessary? What’s our role/professional obligation to the natropath/patient?

    Thanks!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Syphilis update in Australia
Q: When should GPs be testing for syphilis and what opportunities might be missed?
Screen broadly, as many cases are asymptomatic; include syphilis serology in routine STI screening and swab ulcers for PCR when present.
Managing Winter Respiratory Infections with Nasal Sprays
Q: How does this relate to antibiotic resistance and broader stewardship conversations with patients?
The trials showed a roughly 30% reduction in antibiotic use across intervention groups, suggesting that early nasal spray treatment and self-management can decrease antibiotic reliance and support resistance mitigation when implemented broadly among at-risk populations.
Managing Winter Respiratory Infections with Nasal Sprays
Q: What's the best way for GPs to counsel patients on this so they can actually get the most benefit?
Counsel patients to start sprays at the first hint of infection, explain the goal of reducing viral load early, and emphasize sticking to the recommended frequency where possible; also reinforce that preventive use had lower adherence, so prioritize early treatment benefits and combine with lifestyle measures like stress management and physical activity.
Managing Winter Respiratory Infections with Nasal Sprays
Q: Can you give us some practical advice around how often to use these sprays and when to start?
Use sprays at the very first sign of illness, aiming for six applications per day during the initial phase, though real-world adherence tends to be around three times daily; starting early maximizes impact on viral load and symptom severity, and adherence is a key driver of the observed benefits.
Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD)
Q: Jon, do you want to go through exactly what you would consider in a liver screen for LFT derangement and suspected MASLD?
The core liver screen should begin with hepatitis B and C serology, followed by autoimmune screening as indicated, and then screening for hemochromatosis along with other rare conditions, while keeping pragmatic balance to avoid over-testing. In many patients, a broad screen helps identify alternative causes of liver enzyme abnormalities before confirming MASLD.
