  • Good content, bad narration

I really enjoy the articles, but unfortunately I can’t listen to them because the AI narration is quite poor. The intonation sounds unnatural and robotic, and there are noticeable mispronunciations that make it hard to follow. It seems like something that could be improved fairly easily these days, and it would make a big difference to the listening experience.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Frameshift: How Mia Thomaidou tapped a fellowship to connect neuroscience to criminal justice
Q: What does your role as a Dana Foundation fellow involve, and how does it shape your work in philanthropy?
The fellowship combines science with philanthropy, focusing on managing programs, evaluating grant applications, and organizing events to foster collaborations. It's about understanding what projects may be fundable and how to connect researchers with communities and funders for broader impact.
Frameshift: How Mia Thomaidou tapped a fellowship to connect neuroscience to criminal justice
Q: How did you transition from neuroscience to criminal justice, and why pursue two post-graduate degrees at once?
I pursued interdisciplinary training to explore how psychological processes and biases influence real-world outcomes, like sentencing, and to keep a hand in both science and policy perspectives. The dual path helped me build a bridge between research and its applications in justice settings.
Neuro's ark: Spying on the secret sensory world of ticks
Q: How do tics find their next meal?
Carbon dioxide acts as an activator that primes tics to seek out other cues, with olfactory inputs and mechanosensory feedback guiding their approach rather than a single attractant.
Frameshift: Raphe Bernier followed his heart out of academia, then made his way back again
Q: How do you like teaching?
Raphe loves teaching and feels fulfilled now that he has no administrative or research responsibilities and can focus solely on teaching students.
Frameshift: Raphe Bernier followed his heart out of academia, then made his way back again
Q: What got you thinking about leaving Apple?
Raphe wanted to help build something impactful and help people directly but felt distant from the real impact he desired, coupled with wanting to spend more time with his daughter during her senior year of high school.
