  • Infuriated by thoughtless spoiler

I listened to the episode on 28 years later :The Bone Temple. Edith gave away a massive spoiler about the end of the film. It was obvious what and whom she was referring to. Totally spoiled it. Very disappointed 👎

  • Good Show!

Good show, a lot of great research and good questions. Edith is a good interviewer but often gets in the way of the answers with hysterical laughter, often for seemingly no reason except for too much coffee perhaps. I could also do without the long intros prior to cutting to the guests, get on with it!

  • Not enough about soundtracks

What started out as a very interesting podcast about film and television soundtracks has shifted to more general star and director interviews.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

607: Olivia Newman & Dickon Hinchliffe On The Music Of Remarkably Bright Creatures
Q: How did you start to think about scoring Sally Field's performance?
The approach was to lean into her complex emotions by letting the piano-driven themes accompany her journey, using motifs that evolve with her memories and relationships instead of overtly signaling how the audience should feel.
605: Neil Forsyth Talks Legends (Live At The Soundtracking Film Club At Everyman)
Q: What was the approach to writing sensitive cultural contexts (Turkish and Greek communities) into Legends?
Rely on deep research and brave storytelling, acknowledging criminal networks while highlighting humanity within communities, and ensuring the narrative remains character-driven rather than didactic.
605: Neil Forsyth Talks Legends (Live At The Soundtracking Film Club At Everyman)
Q: Did you directly write with acts in mind, or did you prefer discovering the characters and then matching them to the acts?
Characters were developed first through research and storytelling, with the actor and director shaping performances; the acts emerged from the evolving exploration of each character and their relationships.
605: Neil Forsyth Talks Legends (Live At The Soundtracking Film Club At Everyman)
Q: How involved are you with the music side, and how did you choose the composer for Legends?
The process is collaborative and iterative, with the team considering how score and needle drops serve the narrative; Shion Brady Hood was brought in early as a block director and score collaborator.
606: Kristin Scott Thomas Live From Soundtracking Film Club At Everyman, In Partnership With Range Rover
Q: What was the most interesting aspect of working with the composer and sound team?
She highlights the collaboration with the composer, the use of computer tools, and the way melody can be transformed to shape mood and storytelling; it's a learning curve about how sound design can guide emotion.
