  • Top of the Pod

I’ll confess- I got pulled into the podcast for two reasons: Sarah Hepola and the pod on the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. That was a great podcast. So when I saw Sarah post about her new pod, I gave it a shot. Two people who don’t jump immediately to one side or the other, I can count on Nancy and Sarah to talk about things from the middle of the road. When they talk politics, I don’t feel an agenda. When they talk celebrity, it’s not opinion only. I love this pod. It’s the only one I pay for be... more

  • Please quit charging me!

I was a paying subscriber for quite a few months, but decided to unsubscribe a few months ago. I like the podcast, just not enough. The problem is, I keep getting charged for it on my credit card. The unsubscribe message got through to a point, as I now get only “This is a free preview…” and the podcast cuts off after 20-30 minutes. I don’t know how to fix this. There is no one contact, at least no human. Please help.

  • Disappointed

Ladies, have some self-respect, stop calling men women. Show some spine, for the love of god. You don’t have to advocate on their behalf. You don’t have to repeat their stupid talking points - “We need to have better conversations.” No, we don’t. We need to be better at saying “no” to entities men who have zero respect for us.

They discuss how a mix of charisma, entertainment value, and provocation can make controversial ideas feel authentic, attracting listeners who crave transgressive, 'edgy' discourse and a sense of belonging in a culture war.
255. Helen Lewis on Men Who Want Women to Be Quiet
Q: What did you make of Helen Andrews' essay, and why did you consider it compelling or problematic?
The guest reflects that Andrews' piece compellingly linked social changes to certain narratives, but argues that the causality is overstated and that multiple factors, including capitalism and education, contribute to birth-rate and workforce shifts, making the claims debateable.
255. Helen Lewis on Men Who Want Women to Be Quiet
Q: What brought you to this story, and what was your entry point?
The guest explains the initial spark came from tracking a particular intellectual current in the right, and how a specific scholar's stance connected to broader social changes, prompting a deeper dive into masculinism and related discourses.
256. Mary Kay and the Complicated Politics of Selling the American Dream
Q: Can you talk a little bit about how that happens?
She describes the evolution from male-dominated door-to-door selling to women-centric party plans, and how Mary Kay's approach combined personal aspiration with structured, community-driven sales networks.
256. Mary Kay and the Complicated Politics of Selling the American Dream
Q: But, so tell us a little bit about why this story, why this book, why this woman, where did this come from?
The guest explains that years of research revealed how Mary Kay's life intersected with major shifts in American business and gender roles, making it a juicy, underreported narrative that tied direct selling to broader social and cultural currents.
