The Hidden Cost of Faking Leadership: Why Authenticity is Your Greatest Power
Q: Tell me a little bit where that idea of authentic leadership came from and why it is important.
Kimia explains that authentic leadership grows from acknowledging the pressures of historical leadership models and the need to bring your whole self to work, which in turn builds trust and healthier teams.
One Breath Leadership with Ed Howard
Q: Where can people find you at?
You can connect with Ed on LinkedIn under Edward Howard, or visit onebreathleadership.com for resources, freebies, diagnostic tools, and an audio summary of the book. The book is also available on amazon.com.
The Four Surprising Elements That Can Boost Your Leadership Self-Efficacy
Q: Could you walk us through a concrete example of how to implement the reflection practice and what kind of changes leaders should expect to see when they do it consistently?
I recommend a five-minute end-of-day reflection: note what you felt in your body, what feedback you received, what you observed in others doing it well or poorly, and how your mind framed the experience. Over days and weeks, this builds a more accurate internal map of capability, reduces mislabeling of nerves as fear, and gradually rewires thought patterns toward higher self-efficacy. Practically, this also creates a feedback loop that reinforces growth and adjusts behavior before bad habits take root.
The Four Surprising Elements That Can Boost Your Leadership Self-Efficacy
Q: Okay. Sounds like a great way to start. Can you give a client story that shows the four elements in action and the measurable outcomes over time?
A rising middle manager sought to be more confident in front of peers. We broke down his internal narratives and used the four elements—mastery experiences, vicarious learning from colleagues, structured feedback from a small circle, and checking in on physiological signals. Over a relatively short coaching engagement, he shifted from labeling nervousness as incapacity to recognizing activation as readiness, leading to a more authentic and effective leadership presence and better performance with his team.
The Surprising Power of Extroverted IT Leaders in Building Thriving Teams
Q: What actionable steps can aspiring IT leaders take to become effective?
Develop strong cross-functional relationships, adopt an evidence-based plan for certifications, seek mentors, and continuously focus on people-first leadership to drive outcomes.
