  • Lifting the lid on the attractions world

This is a great podcast. As someone who works with attractions (as opposed to in them) it provides a rare insight into the challenges, processes and every day workings. This will hopefully help us work more effectively and efficiently. It’s also very relaxed and informal so is an enjoyable listen.

  • A brilliant podcast, a must listen!

Absolutely LOVE this podcast. Although I don't work in the attractions industry, the topics and conversations resonate with me because it's all about customer service, marketing, relationships and (more recently) surviving during a challenging time. It's such a friendly podcast with really lovely guests and Kelly does such an amazing job interviewing them. I very much liked the interview with Lee Cockerell and Wes Smart. There was a connection between the two even though they are very different ... more

The Leaders Redefining the Visitor Attractions Industry - Emily Popovich, Rachael Hamilton, Ruth Read, Liz Sanchez Rasking & Claire Furnival
Q: What needs to change over the next five years to accelerate equality?
Pay transparency and open salary ranges for roles, plus widespread organizational commitment to mentor and promote women; leadership representation and supportive policies are key to accelerating equality.
Live at Cultural Enterprises Conference with Richard Paterson
Q: What advice would you give to someone running a smaller venue?
Go back to basics: ensure a strong customer offer, clear pricing, good signage, and create multiple ways for visitors to spend money without being intrusive, while testing and learning from small pilots.
Live at Cultural Enterprises Conference with Richard Paterson
Q: How has the pricing and ticketing strategy changed the business?
They broke the single product into multiple tickets, moved a lot of revenue online, and added an on-site ticket charge to balance load and incentivize online purchases, which increased yield by about 25-30%.
Live at Cultural Enterprises Conference with Richard Paterson
Q: What is the key driver for Shakespeare Birthplace Trust right now?
The Birthplace ticket remains the core income driver, with add-ons for other venues and experiences layered on to increase yield and create a coherent, value-based visitor journey.
Climate Action in Attractions: What’s Holding the Industry Back? - Vero Celis and Marie Rayner with Ruth Read
Q: What are the biggest risks for attractions that don't take climate action seriously?
Risks include increased exposure to extreme weather, higher costs from disrupted supply chains, and the potential loss of guests to competitors who offer more sustainable experiences; the key is early alignment and designing for resilience to mitigate these risks.
