Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Innovation, Business and Pet Travel with Gayle Martz, Inventor of the Sherpa Soft-Sided Pet Carrier Bag
Q: How did you protect or differentiate the brand given copies?
Patents were not the sole protection; building a strong brand name and a story around the Sherpa bag, plus widespread publicity, helped distinguish the product even as similar copycats appeared.
Innovation, Business and Pet Travel with Gayle Martz, Inventor of the Sherpa Soft-Sided Pet Carrier Bag
Q: What was the biggest hurdle when promoting this concept to airlines?
The main challenge was convincing airlines that allowing pets in the cabin could be financially viable and improve customer service; once they saw the potential for revenue and safety, policies began to change.
Innovation, Business and Pet Travel with Gayle Martz, Inventor of the Sherpa Soft-Sided Pet Carrier Bag
Q: Tell us how this all started for you.
I wanted to travel with my dog and realized there was no way to bring a small pet on a plane, so I developed a bag that could be used in the cabin and began approaching airlines to demonstrate its benefits, ultimately creating a new category.
Richard Byrne on Davy Crockett and the Making of an 1830s American Musical
Q: How is Washington City described in the era, and what were living conditions like?
The city is depicted as poorly serviced (no sewer system, sparse lighting, open sewers near the White House) yet politically vibrant, with power centers and hotels that reflected class differences and the pressures of urban growth.
The Monkee Bois: Celebrating the Vibrant Energy of the 1980s
Q: Fun. Now, how did you come up with this idea to celebrate this online?
They started posting about 6 years ago for fun, gradually focusing on 80s music and fashion; a band t‑shirt video a year ago helped them break out, and they've been growing since.
