  • Not just Brand stories

I’ve been enjoying this pod for about three years. It became a go-to during my frequent walks with the dog and/or baby, and the interviews were always a good listen.

I think I like Mike G’s interviews because they’re not stories about brands, they’re stories about people and their lives, and of course how they became connected to the spirits industry. Mike is a solid interviewer that clearly puts his guests at ease and lets the interview go where it should without forcing an agenda.

  • If you like spirits, this is a must.

If you’re into booze and the stories/makers behind them, then add this podcast to your list. But the podcast is so much more than booze—it’s about great conversation too. Mike is able to cultivate worthwhile and relaxed conversation, with a little bit of humor too. Show de Vie is truly unique in that it interviews all the important people in spirits that you don’t even know of. Take a listen and learn something new.

  • Fun, interesting and personal

I love this podcast, and I'm not really a podcast kinda guy. The host has a charm that seems to disarm his guests, and you end up with this story that is kinda half about the booze industry, and half about philosophy, music, films, personal experiences etc. Topics kinda run the gamut. They're been able to get some pretty big-time guests recently too, it feels like a decent mix of major corporation (grey goose, glenfiddich etc) and smaller, more "local" guests too.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 382 - Alejandro Orendain: Arette Tequila, a Brand Above.
Q: How do you position the artisanal versus classic products to consumers?
Alejandro explains the simple framing with clear differences: artisanal uses a brick oven and longer cooking, with concrete fermentation and old-style barrels; classic relies on autoclave cooking and standard fermentation, emphasizing modernization for efficiency but with a different flavor profile.
Ep 379 - Alice Carroll: The Right Whiskey at the Right Time
Q: What is the biggest practical step you took to scale the brand?
Launching a mini-launch with e-commerce first to test the concept, then pitching retailers for brick-and-mortar, followed by US expansion. This phased approach let us prove traction before larger commitments.
Ep 379 - Alice Carroll: The Right Whiskey at the Right Time
Q: How did you approach branding and aesthetics to stand out in a crowded market?
We started with who we wanted to connect with, not just what existed in the category. The visuals are colorful, modern, and display-ready—treating the bottle as a canvas and focusing on a display-friendly, lifestyle-oriented presentation rather than traditional 'old world' imagery.
Ep 379 - Alice Carroll: The Right Whiskey at the Right Time
Q: What motivated you to start Foxes Bow instead of continuing with multinational brands?
I wanted whiskey that reflects modern Ireland and speaks to younger, diverse drinkers. It wasn't about rejecting multinationals entirely, but about avoiding the constraints and the old tropes that didn't represent who we are or how people actually drink today.
Ep 375 - John Melvin: Come Together, Right Now
Q: What is the core philosophy behind Good Juice?
The host and John describe Good Juice as Well-Made and Delicious, a platform focused on curated, high-quality bottles and a hospitality-driven experience that educates and builds community rather than chasing volume or big sponsorships.
