  • Yes…just…yes!

There’s history, there’s lore, there’s research told by someone you can listen to without wanting to put a screwdriver in your ear! Lol I bet he spells everything correctly as well! Love this. I grew up on Lake Erie and our baby was the Niagara. I’m sure he’s working on that fascinating story since I’ve been singing her praises! Thanx for making my job as a trucker a little easier! These really help pass the time and I love ships!

I had the misfortune to start with this episode. The female narrator is just awful. She can barely read any sentence longer than 7 words. I’ll try it again, but starting out it’s good info and amateurish presentation.

  • Glad I stumbled on this one!

Unsure of what to expect… I’ve been blown away. Research for the episodes are superb. perfect “podcaster voice” that’s smooth and easy to listen to. The story telling is vivid and detailed. I am always looking forward to a new episode.. especially the longer ones covering old historical wrecks/disasters.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Open Boat: Facts into Fiction
Q: What is the significance of the bird and the shark in the story, symbolically?
Birds often symbolize human emotions like loss and despair in literature, but Crane subverts that by making the bird indifferent to the men, underscoring the ocean's overwhelming scale and the characters' relative insignificance within it.
The Sinking and Discovery of the USCGC Tampa
Q: What is the significance of identifying artifacts and where should they be kept?
Artifacts that can be definitively linked to Tampa help confirm its identity, but as a war grave, handling is regulated; the aim is to recover select items and eventually place them in a national museum, preserving memory and educating the public.
The Sinking and Discovery of the USCGC Tampa
Q: How did the search for the Tampa begin and who led the effort?
The search started after recognizing undersea targets in archival data, with the Gasperados Dive Team taking the lead, supported by historians and collaboration with Jim Delgado and other divers.
The Sinking and Discovery of the USCGC Tampa
Q: What events led up to the Tampa's sinking and what was its mission at that time?
The Tampa was conducting convoy duties, detached from the convoy for refueling, and was torpedoed by German U-boat U-91 while underway in UK territorial waters, marking a decisive and tragic moment in Coast Guard history.
The Wreck of the Mentor w/Eric Jay Dolin
Q: How did you approach gathering primary sources to support theMentor story?
He used two direct accounts from crew members, a captain's transcript found in a museum archive, newspapers from multiple regions, and Palauan oral histories to triangulate and present a well-rounded account.
