Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Digging Up Billy the Kid: Exhuming the Dead
Q: Why exactly do you have doubts that Billy was killed at Fort Sumner?
Many believe rumors or anecdotal stories, often fueled by misinformation rather than concrete evidence.
PTSD in the Old West
Q: Do you think PTSD from the Civil War and the amount of directionless soldiers returning home is a big factor in the presence of the rougher elements of the post-war West?
Yes, PTSD definitely played a role in exacerbating the already volatile conditions of the Old West, but it was not the root cause of the violence.
Old Man Clanton & the Red Sash Cowboys
Q: What caused the Oklahoma Panhandle's existence?
The land that became the Oklahoma Panhandle was influenced by the Missouri Compromise, which aimed to limit the expansion of slavery, thus leaving the area ungoverned for a time before settlement.
Old Man Clanton & the Red Sash Cowboys
Q: What happened to Billy the Kid's guns?
Billy the Kid's gun was documented as being in the possession of Pat Garrett after his death and was later auctioned off; the current location is unknown.
Old Man Clanton & the Red Sash Cowboys
Q: Why don't the Cowboys wear red sashes?
There is no historical evidence that the Cochise County Cowboys wore red sashes; it's a popular myth likely derived from movie portrayals.
