It can be easy to forget how much espionage occurred in the United States during World War II. It wasn’t like the war physically came across the ocean (Hawaii and Alaska excepted). So this was a real eye opener from the folks at the National World War II Museum. Highly recommended.

The soldier who was suffering from shell shock was slapped by Patton, leading to a public outcry and disciplinary scrutiny.
Part 5: D-Day and Deception
Q: What are the big ideas of Operation Fortitude, and how are they important in this period?
The goal of Fortitude was to provide cover for the Normandy invasion, it's a complex operation that involved two components: Fortitude North and Fortitude South.
Part 4: Operation Torch
Q: What's the thinking behind Operation Torch? Why North Africa and what's going on here?
The thinking was driven by a need for the U.S. to engage in combat in 1942 while managing relationships with the Vichy French forces, despite contradictory intelligence about their likely cooperation.
Part 4: Operation Torch
Q: What was the intelligence gathered prior to Torch overly optimistic? Or what was it saying about the Vichy forces that perhaps didn't turn out to be true?
The intelligence was overly optimistic as it shaped expectations that Vichy forces would cooperate and not resist the landings, which ultimately proved incorrect.
