The best podcast about movies. Love that it isn’t two film nerds trying to out nerd each other about films by reading Wikipedia entries to each other. Actually posing questions and then interviewing relevant experts about those questions. It’s the antithesis of current podcasting. In that it’s not lazy, it’s not afraid to be smart or critical and it’s actually good journalism.
What a perfectly matched extraordinary duo!
How to get the whole picture? (Unintended, and too small to qualify as a pun anyways.) Listen to both their perspectives, thoughts, exchanges of opinions and feelings, the super interesting stories, interviews, details, and anecdotes, get super excited about the movies, because it IS always that interesting, then hurry to watch them all! (To actually get the entire picture don't forget to bring yourself with you.) (Ask Mark) (Also, only soft rolls al... more
Always compelling with thought provoking conversations between the hosts and between them and their top notch guests. I particularly enjoy the thematic episodes on things like Melodrama or the adaptations of Stephen King’s work (though my favourite Salem’s Lot didn’t get a mention). Always compelling, so long may this podcast continue.

Thank you both for this endeavor. So much insight and intelligent discussion within. The guests/interviews are always illuminating.. cos of the smart questions asked.
Ellen’s opinions are sometimes predictably cynical .. is it a Gen Z or a Millennial thing? Much is judged through the lens of hindsight, decades of internet discussion and general frustration with our devolving society.
Understandably so, and her viewpoint is still crucial. Agreed or not, her takes are always thoughtful and rele... more

Two hosts guide listeners through cinema and TV with a focus on moving image culture, industry craft, and thoughtful analysis of film history and trends. Episodes frequently center on regional cinema, genre melodrama, adaptations, and interviews with filmmakers, actors, and critics, often weaving cross-disciplinary angles from translation to courtroom drama. A standout pattern is the dynamic pair's balance of deep knowledge and accessible dialogue, plus a steady stream of notable guests from film and television who illuminate both craft and context. This mix makes it attractive for cinephiles and industry professionals seeking sharp commentary, cultural insight, and hosting chemistry that supports ambitious guests and topical topics.
