  • SDS

I can’t even think of a word to describe how insanely stupid of a decision it was to layoff O’Gara. I’ve been watching college football my entire life and following SDS since its inception. O’Gara made SDS what it was. He was their top talent by a long shot. Clearly, that company is bound for failure. On the bright side, I think this could turn out really well for O’Gara. So many journalists seem to be going independent these days. Plus, I gotta think companies like Barstool or The Ringer would ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Who is having the worst time in the 2020s? Polarizing A&M with Tony Catalina
Q: Who has had the worst time in the 2020s, Auburn, Nebraska, or Washington State?
The hosts conclude that Auburn has a strong claim to the top spot early in the decade, but Nebraska and Washington State are also in the running due to long droughts, coaching instability, and conference realignment fallout; by the end of the discussion, Nebraska is positioned as the leading candidate for the worst time, given ongoing struggles and the combination of performance and program trajectory.
Ole Miss Hate Week! Kentucky coach Will Stein on play-calling, Oregon & UK's future
Q: What was your initial impression of Will Stein and how did your collaboration start?
Stein interviewed the hosts for about 45 minutes on the phone, asking questions and showing a quick rapport; the coach emphasizes a player-centric approach, giving the quarterback autonomy to call plays they like within a framework.
Drafting the best 2026 games, Geoff Collins on year at SC & defensive trends
Q: What does Geoff Collins see as the biggest changes in college football defense and offense heading into 2026?
Collins emphasizes the growing prevalence of multiple tight-end sets (13 personnel) to dictate defensive personnel, the continued layering of versatile formations, and the need for defensive coordinators to adapt to increasingly complex offensive schemes with more motion and misdirection.
The SEC's quiet Round 1, DeBoer's new deal, SDSU associate GM Sam Popper interview
Q: First of all, Sam, congratulations on the move; explain your process of going from your role at Michigan to San Diego State and what attracted you to this opportunity.
Sam explains that the move represents a major step in his career, driven by the chance to join a strong staff and to build a roster from the top down with a focus on collaboration with his new colleagues. He emphasizes the importance of working with a strategic, process-driven approach and the opportunity to impact San Diego State as the program transitions into the Pac-12, leveraging his background from Michigan to shape the Aztecs' personnel operations.
Should the SEC Championship end? Matt Hayes on DJ Lagway & FSU's mess
Q: Should we still have an SEC Championship?
The hosts conclude that the conference title game should still exist and carry significance for resumes and program narratives, though the conversation acknowledges that its value may evolve with expansion and scheduling changes.
