  • Way too many short clips

As an Irishman living in Africa, RTE is the best source for Audubon news updates, but why can it not be more streamlined. So many short repetitive clips that fill up the playing list.

Please provide a separate option to listen back to the whole show in one podcast. Thanks.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ireland 'lagging' on home heating retrofit targets - ESRI
Q: What are the main barriers explaining the slow progress, and could policy changes help close the gap?
Barriers fall into three broad categories: financial costs, behavioural resistance where many homeowners are not motivated to change their properties, and informational gaps where people are unclear about heat pumps and how to optimize energy use. The ESRI review suggests adjusting grants and accompanying measures could address these barriers and help accelerate adoption alongside electrification.
Ireland 'lagging' on home heating retrofit targets - ESRI
Q: Muireann, how far off are we from our retrofitting targets given what the ESRI study found?
The targets are decarbonisation-based, and while retrofits and heat pumps are key mechanisms, there are uncertainties because some activity occurs outside SEAI schemes, so the official numbers likely understate total retrofitting, yet the pace still suggests we are well short of the long-run goals.
France, Ireland, Spain, Portugal were Europe regions hit worst by February rainfall
Q: Is it normal or not for February in Europe to have that level of rain?
The expert confirms that there was more rain than average for February across large parts of Western Europe, driven by a southerly jet stream and atmospheric rivers, though February alone was not unprecedented in a warming climate.
Lowry says no charges after Moriarty Tribunal findings
Q: Tell us more first about the Moriarty Tribunal. What was it and why you would set up?
The guest explains the tribunal was established in 1997 to investigate payments and connections involving two prominent Irish figures, with the 2011 report outlining adverse findings against Lowry and establishing a link to the second mobile license, which set the stage for a long investigation.
Urological cancer survival rates improving - NCRI
Q: Tell us more about the main findings.
The NCRI data show improved survival across urological cancers, driven by better treatment and earlier, more efficient diagnosis, especially through rapid access prostate clinics that lead to more cancers being caught at early stages.
