  • Great guests

Trevor consistently hosts compelling guests and gives them space to share their stories without interruption, which makes for engaging conversations. However, a couple of minor drawbacks stand out: his frequent use of upward inflection (upspeak) can be distracting, and at times, he seems underprepared, lacking the depth of research needed to ask more insightful questions that could elevate the dialogue.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dan Pickering (Pickering Energy) - U.S. Shale, $90 Oil & The Strait of Hormuz
Q: What about Canadian oil companies and how they fit in the next 3-5 years?
He notes that Canadian players will have to reintroduce themselves to US and global investors, arguing that eyeballs and familiarity are slower to shift, but that there will be continued but careful cross-border and multi-basin activity as North American energy companies diversify and expand internationally.
Dan Pickering (Pickering Energy) - U.S. Shale, $90 Oil & The Strait of Hormuz
Q: What's Dan's thought on the data center craze?
He believes data centers are real and represent a long-term demand factor driven by AI and cloud infrastructure, with LNG and gas markets likely to feel the near-term impact, but he warns about the risk of overcapitalization in megaprojects and emphasizes the need for sustainable investment pacing.
Chris Carlsen (Birchcliff) - 20 Years in the Montney – Infrastructure, Growth & Discipline
Q: How does the leadership succession impact the company and its investors?
The succession plan brought in fresh leadership and ideas while maintaining continuity. It aligned the executive team around a focused strategy, clarified roles, and accelerated organizational efficiency through new reporting structures and constructive collaboration with partners and service providers.
Chris Carlsen (Birchcliff) - 20 Years in the Montney – Infrastructure, Growth & Discipline
Q: What are the biggest risks when expanding into a new area, and how does Birchcliff mitigate them?
Key risks include commodity price volatility and infrastructure readiness; Birchcliff mitigates these by leveraging in-house capabilities, owning their facilities to control delivery and costs, diversifying markets, and focusing on capital-efficient growth rather than rapid, debt-fueled expansion.
Ryan Bushell (Newhaven): Capital Preservation – Dividends & Energy Infrastructure
Q: Are there sectors you see the most opportunity in right now?
Midstream and energy remain attractive, but valuations are stretched; we're selectively adding high-quality names and remaining patient, with defensive positions like telecom and select financials as ballast.
