  • I'm skeptical and interested but concerned about the lack of acknowledgement that we live in a world limited by climate realities.

  • Pipeline to west coast

Excellent podcast, I listen regularly and it’s very informative.

One request: The host said there would be a significant benefit to Canadians if pipeline capacity to the West Coast was increased, but he didn’t quantify or say what that benefit is. Please tell us what the benefit is, and explain it. Please mention this regularly to improve everyone’s understanding.

  • Iran War, Oil Prices, and Canada Implicatons

I have listened to ARC Energy Ideas for many years and have appreciated the thoughtful discussions about Canada’s energy sector. Lately, though, I find it harder to listen. It just makes me really sad.

In recent episodes there seems to be a great deal of optimism about the future of Canadian oil and gas production, but much less discussion about emissions and climate change. Earlier in the podcast’s history there were more conversations about ESG, renewables, and the broader energy transition. ... more

  • In the pocket of Big Oil

Biased out of the gate, and builds its own echo chamber by speculating and cherry picking data. Weak “scholarship”, but the worst part of this is How Boring they are. If you like listening to biased, bland, ill informed “hosts” who sound slow even at 1.5x, then this podcast is for you…if you can stay awake.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

NVIDIA’s Marc Spieler: AI, Data Centres, and Energy
Q: What makes AI training different from inference in terms of energy use?
Training builds models and has historically consumed massive compute, while inference serves those models at scale; together they define the energy footprint and inform where efficiency gains must be focused across hardware and software stacks.
NVIDIA’s Marc Spieler: AI, Data Centres, and Energy
Q: Tell us about your background and role at NVIDIA.
Marc Spielers explains his path to head NVIDIA's global energy business, focusing on applying accelerated computing to energy challenges and evolving from traditional energy services to an energy-infrastructure perspective.
Alberta’s Energy Opportunity: A Conversation With the Honourable Brian Jean
Q: How feasible is the Alberta government's goal of eight million barrels a day by 2035, and what needs to happen to get there?
It's challenging but achievable if there is continued government-industry alignment, trust, and a collaborative approach to siting pipelines, offsetting regulatory timelines, and ensuring long-term offtake agreements and investment in infrastructure.
Angela Stent on Putin's War in Ukraine
Q: Tell us about your career and perhaps your time at the U.S. State Department and the National Intelligence Office for Russia and Eurasia.
Stent outlines a career spanning academia and government, noting roles in the State Department's Policy Planning and the NIC, and discusses how these experiences shaped her understanding of Russia, NATO, and intelligence coordination.
Shell, LNG Momentum, and Nova Scotia’s Energy Ambitions
Q: How will the Wind West project be advanced, and what are the main hurdles to achieving phase one development?
The Premier outlines the need for transmission, generation capacity, and customer demand, noting that initial phases could be 3,000–5,000 MW with a broader 40–60 GW potential long-term, and stresses the importance of pre-planning and inter-provincial cooperation to secure approvals and investment.
