  • Podcasts missing in action Again.

Love this gardening talkback program. Would award it more stars if the Saturday version was actually uploaded to the podcast app. Yes I can download the last 2 weeks from the ABC’s website but that doesn’t provide the same replay flexibility. Please ABC Perth, post the Saturday podcast to the app.

  • Podcasts missing in action

Love this gardening talkback program. More recently I’ve enjoyed the regular posting of this podcast after years of irregular posting. However both the Saturday July programs have failed to be posted as podcasts. Such a shame as I can’t listen on a Saturday.

  • Refreshing

This gardening show is easy-listening, informative and at times a total crack up. Slightly un-PC which is sooo refreshing after all the heavy stuff on the airwaves. It’s brought me back into my garden too. Thank you so much. Lizzie WA

All about deadheading spent flowers
Q: What should be planted in a shaded, sun-limited cabinet container area?
Annuals like violas and pansies, plus perennials such as heuchera, plectranthus, and labelia, can thrive; a mix of these with proper light can extend color through the season.
All about deadheading spent flowers
Q: Can you prune the tops off where the dead flowers were, or is it dying?
Yes, you can prune the tops back, and it's safe to cut about a third off the top and sides for many plants, especially if pruning is intended to tidy spent blooms.
Preventing shot hole borer spreading through mulch
Q: So can you explain the process of what happens when a shot-hole-ridden tree has been cut down?
The trees, if felled, are handled by contractors with on-site biosecurity offices; all material is double-chipped to under 2.5 cm and then transported to a facility where it is hot-composted, with traps monitoring for any escape, ensuring the beetle and its associated fungus are eliminated.
St Patrick's Day sweet peas can wait
Q: What's the best way to seed small, fine seeds to avoid clumping?
Use a dry medium like coir, vermiculite, or perlite in a bowl with two cups of the medium per packet of seed, then mix for even dispersal and sow dry.
St Patrick's Day sweet peas can wait
Q: Tell us the story behind planting sweet peas for St. Patrick's Day.
The tradition dates back to Ireland, where sweet peas held symbolic meaning; in our hemisphere, timing is key and Sabrina suggests planting in autumn but often delaying to early April depending on climate.
