  • Excellent

Only became interested in gardening in the last few years and came across this podcast very recently. It's now a part of my weekend routine, listening to both shows over the weekend. Graham's knowledge is vast and really helpful.

  • Advertisements

I have been really enjoying your garden show for quite a while now and find it very informative and beneficial..

HOWEVER I have noticed advertising of TV series etc creeping into the show. I don’t mind garden related ads but I’m not interested in TV shows AT ALL and this defeats the purpose of why I choose to escape with a good podcast. Please try to keep to the topic of gardens πŸͺ΄ Cheers.

The Garden Clinic – Full show Sunday August 16 2026
Q: My question is, I want to plant the mandarin. I already bought the mandarin. So what is the preparation? And when can I plant?
With a mandarin, ensure good soil preparation with compost, plant in a generous hole, and backfill with a mix including chock-a-block for nutrition and drainage; water well after planting and space the tree adequately as mandarins tend to be vigorous.
The Garden Clinic – Full show Sunday August 2 2026
Q: What should I prune first on a mandarin tree that's too large for its space?
Begin by pruning back up to 50 percent if necessary, focusing on reducing excessive height while ensuring the tree still has enough foliage to continue growing properly and avoid dieback.
The Garden Clinic – Full show Saturday July 4 2026
Q: What should I feed my blueberries when in pots?
Feed with kahuna or a dedicated azalea/rhododendron fertilizer four times a year to maintain nutrition in pots, and avoid using overly strong, non-specialized mixes that can burn the roots.
The Garden Clinic – Full show Saturday June 13 2026
Q: What is the best approach to repotting and avoiding soil compaction in winter?
Focus on next-size-up pot, avoid overpotting at cooler times, and use moisture-penetrating techniques like wetting agents to maintain better root-soil contact.
The Garden Clinic – Full show Saturday June 20 2026
Q: What's the best way to move plants when you're changing houses or moving to a new garden?
Grafting and aerial layering were discussed as methods to move or propagate plants; grafting combines rootstock with desirable traits, while aerial layering creates a rooted cutting while still attached to the parent plant, offering a way to move or clone without removing the plant entirely.
