  • Fantastic information and comforting!

It took me about a dozen clicks to figure out how to rate this podcast but I persevered because of how important I think this podcast is. I am financially literate, know how to budget and manage my money but I am clueless about my super and whether I will have enough for retirement. I worry about this. Even something that sounds simple like topping up my super, I don’t know how to actually do this. I have commenced building my knowledge on this phase and Becs book and this podcast are a valuable... more

  • The info I needed to hear

Really enjoying the variety of topics that this podcast presents relative to my life as I consider what “retirement” looks like. It speaks to the fact that the one size fits all doesn’t apply.

  • Entering But Need Info

I’ve been listening to this podcast for a while and happy to look past its sexist views on things as 30 years ago it would have been the other way around. But the current episode inspired me to wright a review and unsubscribe.

The episodes are entertaining but if you are looking for some factual information there are no links to sites or what governing body the referred help and assistance can be accessed from. Pointless!!! I just realised I’ve been wasting my time.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The hidden ways you’re being nudged to spend; with Chris Kohler
Q: What motivated you to write a book called How They Get You?
He explains wanting to apply a 2025-26 lens to rapidly changing consumer tricks—subscription models, loyalty schemes, pricing tricks, and the cash vs tap economy—so people can understand how these systems are designed to separate them from their money.
The truth about financial advice!
Q: How can AI help while avoiding giving people a false sense of certainty?
AI should be used as a conversational UX to present information and guidance in plain language, while the underlying math and tailoring remains driven by licensed professionals within guardrails and a best-interest standard to ensure recommendations are appropriate for the individual's situation.
The truth about financial advice!
Q: What is the uncomfortable truth about financial advice that consumers aren't really told?
The industry has built its models around incentives that can bias advice toward products or higher-fee services, and many Australians still can't access affordable, personalized guidance; there is a need for scalable, consumer-focused solutions that prioritize the client's needs over product sales.
The cost of retirement just went up; Here's what you need to know
Q: Walk us through the new benchmarks and how they differ for comfortable, modest, and rental scenarios.
The new benchmarks set lump sums and annual spend per household type, with couples at around $730,000 for comfortable and renters showing higher relative costs; annual spends are roughly $77,000 for a couple and $55,000 for a single on the comfortable track, with modest and rental variants providing different levels of pension support.
The cost of retirement just went up; Here's what you need to know
Q: Can you tell us what's driving the change and whether this is a big shift we should have seen coming?
The changes are driven by a higher cost of living than CPI in several retiree spending categories, like utilities and private health, plus higher deeming rates for the age pension; the update aims to reflect real costs and shift more emphasis onto superannuation in funding retirement.
