WOMEN, GAMBLING & METH WITH LEROY HENRIKSEN
Q: How did the drug court change your life and lead you toward where you are today?
He explains that the drug court provided a pathway out of prison, introduced him to intense NA involvement, and allowed him to rebuild his life through treatment, education, and work with Odyssey. The program helped him shift from desperate cycles to meaningful work and service, culminating in his current role in peer support and community-based recovery.
WOMEN, GAMBLING & METH WITH LEROY HENRIKSEN
Q: Tell me a little bit about where your mental health and addiction journey begun.
Leroy describes starting very young, with drugs and alcohol in the family and early exposure to meth at 15, which drew him into a life of crime and substances. He notes the shift from initial enjoyment to a later, more harmful pattern, including episodes of violence and disconnection from his family, before entering treatment and eventually finding a path toward recovery.
SEX, DRUGS & ROCK 'n' ROLL WITH RIKKI MORRIS
Q: What led you to seek help after years of using alcohol and drugs?
I hit rock bottom after a lengthy period of using, debt, and family stress, then a family member arranged an assessment at CADS that opened the doorway to treatment and recovery.
#Ep17 - PAUL WHATUIRA: A PhD in Pain
Q: Did you find, back then, were other players or other team members, did you find that you could connect with, I guess, the boys on an emotional level?
I don't think it was a thing back then. We just didn't know how to communicate our feelings.
#Ep17 - PAUL WHATUIRA: A PhD in Pain
Q: Did you find yourself through that putting a lot of pressure on yourself?
Definitely. I felt that if I wasn't playing first grade, I wasn't worthy enough to go back to my hometown.
