  • Consistently great content

Nick is a fantastic host. He brings the best out of his interviewees by not trying to dominate the show. I’ve been listening regularly for about two years now and it’s easily my favourite photography podcast. Nick gets a variety of guests on the show and I always learn a lot. Thank you and please keep up the good work

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

On Peter Hujar: An Interview with Joel Smith
Q: Why was Candy Darling's image such a centerpiece, and how did it come to be viewed differently over time?
The photo captures a dramatic, performative moment that speaks to the era's fusion of glamour and vulnerability; later access to the full set of sheets reframed it within a larger story about relationships, mortality, and Hujar's practice.
On Peter Hujar: An Interview with Joel Smith
Q: What made the Contact sheets project such a pivotal focus for the Morgan show?
The contact sheets reveal the evolving dynamics between photographer and sitter, showing how final portraits emerged from extended interactions, and they broaden the narrative beyond single famous images to the entire arc of his career.
Anastasia Samoylova: Adaptations
Q: What drew you to Florida as a primary subject, and how did the Met show come about?
Florida offered a complex geographic and cultural landscape that could be read through both the documentary eye and painterly sensibilities; the Met show emerged after the Floridas project gained momentum and Evans' Florida archive became accessible, allowing for a historical dialogue.
Anastasia Samoylova: Adaptations
Q: How did your initial training in environmental design influence your approach to photography?
It trained me to see space and structure critically, which translates into a deliberate use of composition, color, and the flattening of space that continues to define my documentary work and later hybrids with painting.
Susan Meiselas: Encore Presentation
Q: How did you approach Carnival Strippers with regard to trust and intersection with power dynamics?
She describes earning access by entering the space as a man and building trust with the performers and managers, emphasizing the importance of consent and mutual respect, and acknowledging the audience's role in the environment.
