  • A true photographers podcast

Long time listener, and I cannot tell you how much joy, comfort and wisdom I garner from Neale’s content. He has a way with guests, putting them at ease and helping to bring out the best in them to make for compelling storytelling. Even if you’re not a shooter, there’s something here for you. From Barney’s barks to the leaves beneath his feet, Neal manages to make each episode a sketch unto itself. It’s one of my happy places.

  • Stories of life

Neale James is a fabulous host, introducing us to a diverse and global community of photographers. Every podcast is different, with interviews tailored to the guest and linked to the interests of an extraordinary community of camera carrying photowalkers. Don’t expect much kit talk, this is stories of lives lived with a camera. Highly recommended.

  • Best Photo Podcast

I love this podcast! Out of all the photography podcasts I’ve listened to, this one brings me joy! Neale’s excitement is contagious and I typically listen to it while I’m out on my daily walk. I recently grabbed my camera and went walking on a wooded trail. The entire time I could hear Neale’s voice in my head. I wondered what Neale would see on my walk. He’s made me stop and enjoy the little things. Keep up the good work. A fan from the USA

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#523 Long live your photo blog!
Q: Is blogging still worth doing if you're an amateur, or can it be just as valuable when you're starting out?
Yes, because blogging provides a real estate for your voice, builds a relationship with an audience, and isn't dependent on social platforms—it's a way to share your journey and growth, which can be meaningful regardless of monetization.
#517 Dreaming in Photos
Q: What does your son think of what you do?
Cathal's son is happy that he's back taking photographs, as he identifies as a photojournalist. However, at 17, he is focused on his own aspirations and not heavily invested in his father's career.
#515 Strangers when we meet
Q: What's your why? What makes you do this?
The human connection can be very valuable, as everyone has their own stories to tell.
#513 THE ONE, big pictures from 2025 Part 1
Q: What was your late wife's name?
Her name was Ruth.
#513 THE ONE, big pictures from 2025 Part 1
Q: What advice would you give for people photographing their dogs?
Be aware of the light and get down low to capture them as the main feature of the photograph.
