  • “The Real MFA”

Michael, who I have never met, connects and reconnects me to an array of new contemporary artists working through the lens and through photography, as well as many artists from the photography hall of fame. I find the candor and openness to discuss personal histories informative, refreshing, reassuring and inspiring. I think an alternative show title could be, “The Real MFA”. Thank you Michael and SVA for sharing this podcast with the world.

  • Great show for amateurs and pros alike

The show features in depth interviews with a broad variety of photography professionals. The subjects selected are diverse, as is their work, and the host asks the kind of questions that get them to open up about the creative process. A good choice for people who want to take deep dives, but if you are just looking for photography tops and tricks it won’t be useful.

  • Varied and interesting

After listening to nearly all the episodes, I think the best part is the way they let such a diverse range of photographers really be themselves and talk openly about their work without judgment. Intelligent questions without being condescending or judgmental. Looking forward to more. How is Kai still single?

Siri Kaur | Sistermoon
Q: What was it like doing this work with collaborators, with family collaborators?
Making work about family is more challenging because I care deeply about how they look and come across, and I want to make sure they are happy with the way they are portrayed.

Zellar explains that he includes many aspects of his life, childhood experiences, and emotional weather, especially through music and personal relationships.
Brad Zellar | Till the Wheels Fall Off
Q: Is the Eggleston Market a little Easter egg in your novel?
Yes, there are many little photo Easter eggs, including descriptions that reference famous photos.
Brad Zellar | Till the Wheels Fall Off
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your past, your history and where you come from?
Brad discusses his childhood in a blue-collar town in Minnesota and his struggles with finding his artistic path.
Shen Wei | A Season Particular
Q: What about the way the photos are sort of laid out as spreads in terms of different sizes and all?
When I sent in my market, it was quite similar to the way you see it in the final, but we still did spend time rearranging some of them, adding some pictures.
