  • Ideas for life

Some interviews provide ideas you might not have thought of. Renting out your home not always as carefree as some suggest. Cringeworthy grammar at times but if can ignore it (I can’t), worth a listen. “She and her husband” as subject before verb—not “Her and her husband.”

  • Inspiring!

I love the concept of a mini retirement. I’ve done a number of 3-4 week overseas trips with the family and every one has been an incredible experience. I’m now inspired to consider how to use a similar amount of time for something else related to ‘testing’ retirement. Going to an immersive Italian language school in Italy for a few weeks is top of my list.

From Corporate Stress to Unplanned Mini Retirement
Q: How did CoastFi influence the decision to cut back or exit the corporate job?
CoastFi offered a middle path where one could leave the intense full-time role while still keeping a security cushion, which helped them reframe the decision not as an abrupt permanent exit but as a strategic shift toward lower-stress, meaningful work.
From Corporate Stress to Unplanned Mini Retirement
Q: What prompted Meghan to leave the corporate tech track?
A combination of sustained burnout, a micromanaging boss, and health concerns from fertility treatments made the daily stress unsustainable, triggering a long consideration of CoastFi as a realistic alternative to staying in a high-pressure role.
Opting for mini-retirements instead of FIRE
Q: What is your take on balancing work with life experiences during mini-retirement?
It's essential to enjoy life outside of work; I've learned to appreciate both travel and being home, and how each amplifies the value of the other by allowing reflection and gratitude.
Opting for mini-retirements instead of FIRE
Q: So to kick us off, where were you at before you thought about taking this mini-retirement in your career, in your finances, in your family, what was that looking like?
Before taking my mini-retirement in June 2023, I was working towards financial independence, feeling very close to my goal until market crashes in early 2020 set me back, which led to a reevaluation of what early retirement really means to me.
Reinventing Life Before Retirement
Q: Who do you think would benefit the most from your book?
Midlife individuals, especially women, who are reimagining their lives and seeking inner joy.
