Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Outlook CEO Bob Jahr on the Lytenava Launch | Plus, Miles Harper on Being Connective Tissue for Industry Innovation
Q: Can you walk us through what a complete response letter is and its implications?
A CRL is issued when the FDA cannot approve a submission and outlines missing elements or questions, including data interpretation, endpoints, safety, efficacy, or manufacturing. It often leads to further meetings with the FDA to clarify next steps and the path to approval.
Devon Ghodasra, MD, on Biosimilars in Practice | Plus Vas Sadda, MD, on Ultra-Widefield Imaging for a Peripheral Detachment
Q: What determines which biosimilars you stock and promote in your practice?
Reliability and manufacturer support are key, including patient assistance programs, copay support, and the ability to work with our practice rather than impose payer-driven constraints. We prefer options that allow physician and patient autonomy.
Devon Ghodasra, MD, on Biosimilars in Practice | Plus Vas Sadda, MD, on Ultra-Widefield Imaging for a Peripheral Detachment
Q: What have been the biggest hiccups when adopting biosimilars, and how did you address them?
Billing and reimbursement are the major hurdles, especially around queue codes and temporary codes during transitions. We prepared billing staff, aligned on pre-switch payer coverage, and chose biosimilars with established codes to smooth the process.
Devon Ghodasra, MD, on Biosimilars in Practice | Plus Vas Sadda, MD, on Ultra-Widefield Imaging for a Peripheral Detachment
Q: How do you introduce a biosimilar to a retina practice?
We start with upfront education, a concise script for patients, and a phased rollout beginning with less complex cases, while ensuring the science is explained and trusted by both clinicians and patients.
The Future of Bevacizumab | Plus John Miller, MD, on the Mass Eye and Ear Vitrectomy Course | Encelto for MacTel2
Q: How does Encelto work and why is it significant for MacTel2 patients?
Encelto is a cell-based therapy that provides CNTF-producing cells in a capsule implanted in the eye, potentially offering lifelong treatment for MacTel2 and delaying photoreceptor death, which could significantly affect patient quality of life.
