  • Honors lived experience

This is a fantastic podcast that honors lived experiences and the people who have been through it. Really important to hear lived experiences when thinking about how to improve systems and structures set up by people who don’t have to use them.

  • Powerful, loving and transformative.

I searched for years to find a podcast about fostercare… that was made by creators with Lived Experience. Michael has seen the system from every angel. He is a talented interviewer and leads with purposeful reflections. I went through care and adopted my nephew out of care. This podcast lifts not only the voices of impacted people but shines light on solutions, empowerment and healing. Love love love your work Michael.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

" She believed she could, so she did ”
Q: How has healing been a part of your journey?
Healing is always part of my journey and is crucial to my personal growth and stability.
" She believed she could, so she did ”
Q: What kind of change do you want to see in the child welfare system?
I want CCIs, child caring institutions, to stop being placements for foster youth. The current system isn't working effectively.
"Still waters run deep"
Q: What does reclaiming your voice look like in spaces that once silenced you?
It feels weird at first, but I've learned that representation is very important. I don't want to be the only youth with lived experience in the room.
"Still waters run deep"
Q: What was the moment or series of moments that turned your pain into purpose?
It's a mixture of what I experienced in group homes and with abandonment. I didn't want any youth to feel that way ever again.
"Still waters run deep"
Q: When you aged out and moved into your own apartment, what did freedom feel like and what fears came with that?
It was hard. I felt like an injured bird who just was thrown off a building and expected to fly. I felt confused and hurt.
