  • Honors lived experience

This is a fantastic podcast that honors lived experiences and the people who have been through it. Really important to hear lived experiences when thinking about how to improve systems and structures set up by people who don’t have to use them.

  • Powerful, loving and transformative.

I searched for years to find a podcast about fostercare… that was made by creators with Lived Experience. Michael has seen the system from every angel. He is a talented interviewer and leads with purposeful reflections. I went through care and adopted my nephew out of care. This podcast lifts not only the voices of impacted people but shines light on solutions, empowerment and healing. Love love love your work Michael.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Power With Purpose, Leadership With Heart
Q: How does peer support and lived experience leadership shift outcomes for youth compared to traditional models?
Lived experience changes the dynamic from tokenized input to shared power and co-design, enabling policies and services to be rooted in actual needs, with better belonging, accountability, and practical solutions.
Aging Out Is Not a Graduation. It Is a Test of New Freedoms
Q: What responsibility comes with adults choosing to step into a young person's life in foster care?
Being mindful and person-centered, offering authentic listening, owning mistakes, and ensuring conversations honor the youth's voice and autonomy, with ongoing support tailored to each individual's needs.
Aging Out Is Not a Graduation. It Is a Test of New Freedoms
Q: What does true permanency actually look like in someone's life?
Permanency is about stability and ongoing connection, not a fixed location or status, recognizing that life is fluid and the individual's sense of belonging can continue to evolve beyond traditional housing or timelines.
Aging Out Is Not a Graduation. It Is a Test of New Freedoms
Q: Just as I start, Aiden, what led you to care so deeply about belonging, permanency, and relational responsibility?
Lived experience and listening to other aged-out youths highlighted how independence without community creates gaps; a sense of belonging must be built through community and a chosen or hired family rather than relying solely on formal structures.
It Can Be Done
Q: How old were you when you first remember feeling like something wasn't right at your home?
I would have to say five or six, when my mom had a new boyfriend and severe abuse started; we were squatting in an abandoned house and things escalated quickly.
