  • What century are we in?

I’m a female lawyer (we make up ~40% of the profession in the US by the way) interested in drone laws so I flipped on episode 205. Almost immediately one of the hosts said “Some of you ladies out there may be like ‘agh this is a hobby this is a guy’s thing’…. Did you want a drone at your wedding? What’s up with that? Do you want drone footage there? At a party or event? You may be closer connected to a drone than you realize”

Such a condescending and alienating way to start an episode. And this... more

This was incredibly helpful to me learning about s corp . I am super interested in doing an onboard call with either of you - you were very easy to understand and super insightful. I connected with you both via Instagram and LinkedIn . I love to grow and watch my self get successful in a world full of tax loopholes that we need help learning about. Again thank you for this podcast for small growing businesses like mine

#613 Open Forum — Kids’ Trump Accounts, Real Estate Taxes, and Growing Your Business
Q: What is the best way to handle a large farm sale with a significant gain—1031 exchange vs. lazy 1031 vs. immediate investment offsets?
Several options exist, including a traditional 1031 exchange to defer gains, or a 'lazy 1031' approach where you immediately invest in depreciable property to offset gains without a 1031. The best choice depends on whether you want to preserve stepped-up basis and how you plan future depreciation and estate planning; consult a tax lawyer for a customized trifecta strategy.
#613 Open Forum — Kids’ Trump Accounts, Real Estate Taxes, and Growing Your Business
Q: If a farm is being sold with a personal residence split out, should the farm be transferred into an LLC before the sale to enable business deductions in a 1031 exchange?
No. Transferring the farm to an LLC before the sale generally does not help and can hurt due to title and mortgage issues; the farm needs to be on its own title for 1031, and the LLC approach often complicates financing and carryover basis. Consider separate title and explore 1031 or other offset strategies.
#613 Open Forum — Kids’ Trump Accounts, Real Estate Taxes, and Growing Your Business
Q: Is it worth setting up a Trump account for kids who are 15 and 17, given the $1,000 government contribution for new births and employer matches?
Yes, you should consider it because even without the free government grant, you can contribute up to $5,000 per year per child, and employer matches or gifts can further boost funding; the real strategic value is the ability to convert the account to a Roth IRA when the child turns 18 or later, taking advantage of projected lower tax rates.
#610 Earn Passive Income Through Rental Real Estate Investing (feat. Dustin Heiner)
Q: What are your thoughts on partnering someone in a locale and making them the manager in an equity relationship?
Dustin expresses some skepticism but acknowledges that it's a valid approach, stating he prefers not to partner but understands that it can work if structured properly.
#610 Earn Passive Income Through Rental Real Estate Investing (feat. Dustin Heiner)
Q: Tell us how you fell into this.
Dustin shares that he initially bought a property in 2006 which generated passive income, leading him to pursue more investments after realizing the potential of real estate.
